I Wanna Get UP Right Now New Years 2013

I went to church yesterday.  

I walked out of the bathroom and was greeted by a man, sitting in a chair, who acted like we knew each other.  He was very friendly.  I didn't recognize him, but thought he knew me from going to services, as he asked where I'd been recently.  

I was friendly and reserved with him.  

Next to him sat another man.  They were both in their 50's or 60's.  He didn't say much, but as I talked with this other man for a few moments, I watched as his friend kept a straight stare at my crotch.  Literally, I don't think he looked up much.  

As I stood there, feeling more and more uncomfortable, I tried to shift my posture slightly, thinking that maybe the way the light was hitting me he could see through the rayon fabric of the pants I was wearing.  Even though I did, he kept on staring.  

As I walked away I felt pissed.  I felt angry.  I felt uncomfortable.  I felt shame.  

I felt silenced by his stare, like I couldn't say anything about it because that would be rude.  And, what if it was me?  What if I was the culprit, wearing something that was "too see through," even though I was fully dressed, modestly.  

Enough is enough, I thought last night, as I thought about the experience and still felt angry about not speaking up.

The words staring coming out of me, "Speak up, speak up," and I knew I had to grab the recorder and get this one in!  

I mean, I come to church and I'm looked at this way by a grown man?

I know I can't control how everyone looks at me, but in the least, I am asking you to offer me the respect of looking me in the eyes and greeting me there instead of staring at my lady parts or the area of my body where they live trying to catch a glimpse.

"Right Time" Teaser

"Right Time Mantra" came through me as a song.  I was working on material for a mantra cd when I discovered this hook in the middle of this freestyle inspired song that I sang one day into my phone.  So, I picked out the hook and decided to make it into a mantra because the message is so powerful and so timely (no pun intended!).  

Enjoy as a simple reminder that sometimes there is a reason why we have to wait for things.  Right time is the right time!

I'm Ready

Dear Human Being,

On a warm, sunny, summer afternoon many years ago, five women sat in Bidwell Pkwy, in Buffalo, N.Y., composing a song.

Eliza Jean Grey Pollock created a beautiful melody on the guitar and wanted to know if we could put lyrics to it. Brainstorming ideas, we painted a picture of what this song was about: waking up in the morning, the sunlight streaming through the windows, realizing who we are, healing.

After that day, Nancy Sterman Fernandez took the lyric ideas, and with the help of Eliza, Saranaide Rodriguez, Laura Aiisha, my twin sister, and I, we co-created a beautiful song called "Let Love Doo."

Over the holidays, in December 2019, and then in March, 2020, we went into Robby Takac's recording studio, GCR, to record the song. Iit felt like a calling to get it out into the world.

As we finally had the song ready to share, we thought, what a better time than now to release this beauty INTO the world to share some light, love and inspiration to "Let Love Do!"

What Have I Got to Lose? is a song that came through a groovy reggae bass line I'd heard in a dream one morning.  

I wanted to create a song from this bass line and ended up singing out lyrics that eventually didn't match the awesome bass line I'd heard.  However, with the magical expertise and musical production of reggae musician, Carl Harvey, who created an awesome musical track, based off of the main melody of the song, we've got this awesomely groovy, fun and uplifting song to groove to and uplift our spirits!

This song was a COVID inspired song about pivoting in a new direction, due to the great COVID Pause, and choosing to go for our dreams, even in the face of fears and uncertainties!  

What have YOU got to lose? is a song that inspires us to be better and live our fullest lives for the greater good of all!  
Let's DO THIS ALL!    

And, a BIG, thank you to Carl Harvey for the great music he produced, and all his input and guidance through this process.  And, thank you to Fred Betschen for the great mastering.
