The Song Academy residential songwriting camp is an immersive & motivational experience for talented young songwriters aged 11-18.

Here are some of the songs recorded during the 4 days.  

Our young songwriters explored everything from creative lyric writing, chords, melody and harmony improvisation, to song production & recording, with plenty of time for entertainment in between with open songwriter nights, choir, VIP guest performers & speakers and a showcase at the end of camp...plus chill out time with volleyball, badminton and arts & crafts.

My song, Burning Trees, is an expression of being so intertwined, so reliant, and so in love with something, that you don't realise you're setting your world on fire. It expresses themes of self identity, or lack of, and how pain and lack of stability is often framed by the narrative of unconditional love, and so-called "natural dynamics" of any relationship or passion. The chorus of the song's meaning shifts throughout the journey, although maintaining the same lyrics, with the central line "tunnel vision" having dual meaning, being so devoted to someone, and also having blindness to everything other than that, oftentimes, yourself. This song is very important to me as it talks about what I have gone through in my life many times, my self-identity fading, until I've lost myself, and don't know who I am anymore. Unknowingly setting myself on fire, and only later seeing the burnt trees.
