Emerging from Rennes, France in 2018, SONGØ has swiftly become one of Europe’s most
exciting Afropop collectives. Blending Afrohouse, Amapiano, French Touch, and Afrobeat with
organic instrumentation, the band transforms diverse influences into a hypnotic, soulful sound.
Led by the magnetic South African singer Sisanda Myataza, whose voice flows through English,
French, Xhosa, and Mooré, SONGØ embodies the true spirit of an Afropop Alchemist: melting
cultures, languages, and rhythms into a transcendent whole.
Their journey began with a spellbinding debut at Les Trans Musicales in 2019, immediately
marking them as a rising force on the French and international scene. With the release of their
debut EP “4” (2020), SONGØ captured global attention, praised for its fusion of electro-African
grooves and soul-soaked melodies. International exposure soon followed with performances
featured on Arte Concert, KEXP, and appearances at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS).
In 2022, they unveiled “Tsibiri”, expanding their reach, before returning in 2023 with the deeply
moving single “Vulindlela”, a stirring fusion of Afro-house, gospel, and pop that channeled
healing and resilience. That same year, SONGØ proudly served as Mastercard Brand
Ambassadors for the Rugby World Cup 2023, bringing their unifying energy to a global stage.
