Description: This is a song that first was a poem I wrote today. I very quickly got inspiration for the music, Thinking love spirit, thinking of the sexy groove.

The Close-Ups existed from 2003 to 2006 and we're my attempt at doing an "Archies for the 21st Century"- a cartoon band but with an indie-pop ethic. The actual music was me (Carl Green): guitar, bass, percussion, Abby Connor: voice, Paul Smith: drums, and Adam Sayers: keys. The graphics and animation were by Jez Hall, a talented animator from Manchester, and production was overseen by Siobhan Fenton from Teesside University. The project attracted a lot of North East media coverage (including Tyne Tees and BBC Look North) and the band went on to release 3 vinyl only singles (including this track Mascara Dave) and the 2006 album "2am in Flat 3b". The Close-Ups music was featured on Steve Lamacq, Stuart Maconie, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe's radio shows, and still sells to this day. The Close-Ups song "The Face Of  A Girl" has been covered by my present band Head Of Light Entertainment (also on Soundcloud folks!)

Something Missing

Me and Abby Connor, The Close-Ups in person. This was the B side to the second single (Mascara Dave- hear it on my Secret Carl Soundcloud page) but in hindsight should have been the main song. Steve Lamacq obviously agreed as he played this several times on his Radio One show, ignoring the A side. Fair enough. Nice dirty guitar sound on this, recently re-employed for some current Head Of Light Entertainment songs. It's Your Loss was at least a decade old by this point, its origins being the live Shandy Wildtyme set from around 1994.
