Rainstick is a collaborative composition by the Sonic Explorers on Thursday, June 28, 2012. The work draws on field recordings around the lagoon - particularly sticks on the ground and rain in the trees. The idea was to create a composition that evolved like a dream, moving into the water of the lagoon. The students also played rhythms on the sign and bridge that feature in the composition.

The sonic explorers project was commissioned for TreeLine 2012, an innovative green art event on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Conceived and directed by Leah Barclay, sonic explorers revolves around the creative possibilities of soundscape ecology, a new and evolving field of biology where scientists record a given habitat and listen for patterns and changes. This project involves workshops, collaborative compositions, sound mapping and the TREE SONGS installation all aimed towards connecting young people to the environment through sound.
