Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this edition we welcome Elec (@elec-brown) & Lisa Luka (@lisa_luka)

lisa & elec are two magicians from germany. 

lisa, who is quite new to the scene, got popular real quick for her driving and cheeky  organic downtempo podcasts. besides that she also shared the stage with artists like super flu, bebetta, daniel jäger, dave dinger or jpetterson at different international events within the last two years. her sound clearly depends on how she feels and and genres are mostly secondary. 

elec, as an international dj and producer, he already played a lot of gigs all over the world and is well known for his touching, heartful and sometimes dramatic tracks and sets. 

every song he released in the last two years on diferent labels climbed the top100 in organic house & afro-house. the last one was about a week on #1 of the Beatport charts and got support from artists like, Hyenah, Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, Claptone or Karotte. Every year elec is playing shows around the globe. festivals like, rave on snow, nature one, untold, open beatz or his own baby: Schwerelos Open Air in Passau but also clubs like: sisyphos, berlin, kater blau, suicide circus, odonien, cologne or harry kline in munich and sometimes with lisa luka b2b.

Although this little gouache by Pablo Picasso has been mistakenly identified as a study for his most inventive work, Les Demoiselles D'Avignon, it is really a preliminary work for Nude with Cloths, a painting painted shortly after. However, while some scholars place the execution of the Study in the winter of 1906-1907, it is most likely that it took place in Paris during the summer of 1907, when the painter was working on the painting. Nude with Cloths is a solitary depiction of the second female figure in Les Demoiselles, in which she extends the concept of the veil dance. If the geometric composition of Les Demoiselles is considered a "reaction" of Picasso to Derain's Bathers, which shocked him at the Salon des Indépendants in March 1907, in this Nude, the painter "challenges" the rhythms of Matisse's Blue Nude, exhibited in that same exhibition. The nude dancer moves like a medium, bewitched by some mysterious music, in a gesture delivered with her eyes closed. On the other hand, her movement reveals more to us than meets the eye and, as Pierre Daix puts it, Picasso manages to create "only with her rhythms a true depth." With this innovative solution, the artist not only solves the problem of painting in three dimensions, but also unstoppably begins the path towards cubist language.

Chi House #002: Thommie G live at Wildeburg 2022

It was late August and still the unprecedented drought (which started back in June) showed no signs of ending.  In the witch’s forest several wells had dried up and some trees were even shedding their brown leaves.  Many herbs, animals and insects had died because of a lack of water.  It was a very tough summer for the forest dwellers.  But on that day Hekske (the little witch), Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) and Lalita (the Asian tree nymph) decided it was time for action and started the preparations for a rain dance.  But just as they were about to shuck off their clothes and start dancing, Bob The Owl landed on Hekske’s hand.  He had an urgent message to convey, as a visitor had just entered the forest.  And he was not human, which is why the guard animals didn’t chase him away (like they always do with human intruders).  Hekske told Bob to show their guest the way.  And 15 minutes later, the girls welcomed their guest.  He was obviously a wizard, as he was wearing a long black cloak.  He looked very young, just a teenager.  His shiny skin was soft and pale, in contrast with his black hair and mesmerizing black eyes.  He was obviously very shy, as it was the first time he ever saw a witch or nymph.  Lalita immediately prepared oriental herbal tea to welcome their guest.  A little later, they all sat down in a circle on the soft moss and introduced themselves while sipping tea.  The boy appeared to be only 13 years of age and he came from the area of Mount Damavand on the southern side of the Caspian sea.  He introduced himself as Esfandiar (اسفنديار,) - a Persian name which means ‘pure creation’.  The little witch got very curious as she had never met a witch or wizard from that part of the globe.  Then she asked whether he knew a magic spell to make rain.
At first the young wizard was clueless, but then he suddenly remembered the small flacon which an old Persian leopard had given him back in the Caspian Hyrcanian forest.  He took the small bottle in his hand and sensed the energy.  Esfandiar felt that this mysterious liquid could bring a solution, but the leopard hadn’t explained how to use it.
Then the young wizard took his magic wand.  It was made from a special kind of wood from the Caspian Hyrcanian forest and looked very unusual.  It also felt very unusual.  Falke was surprised how soft the wood was, while in complete contrast Hekske found it unusually hard, despite touching exactly the same area of the stick.  So this fascinating wand was soft and hard at the same time.  The girls had never felt such a thing.  Then Esfandiar’s attention turned back to the little flacon.  He sensed that it was time to open it.  All she girls could smell the powerful fragrance … a delicate mix of zaaferon (saffron), golpar (persian hogweed) and zardchoobeh (turmeric).  Then the young wizard let one drop fall on the ground.  It immediately produced a small white cloud.  Then Esfandiar got an idea. He poured the remaining liquid on his magic wand, which he pointed towards the sky.  For a few seconds nothing happened but then all of a sudden the wand took off and flew straight into the sky with a loud hissing sound, like a rocket.  Finally it exploded into a large white cloud high in the sky.  Within seconds, there was the rumbling sound of thunder while the cloud grew bigger and darker…

Recorded Set at Mystic Creatures 24.09.22 Mensch Meier Berlin

Bei diesem ungewöhnlich ausgedehnten KataHaifisch Podcast handelt es sich um ein Live-Recording von einer Mysticcreatures Tanzveranstaltung. Am 24.09.2022 wurden die beiden Musikschaffenden firgun & Heyoka zu einer Party der Berliner VA-Reihe eingeladen. Insgesamt 4 Stunden und 20 Minuten spielten sich die beiden in die Herzen und das Gedächtnis der Gäste. Bei einer solch umfassenden Reise durch die Sphären des Downtempo Genres ist musikalisch gesehen alles in diesem Set enthalten. Passagenweise wird es aufbrausend und energetisch, dann mal wieder nachdenklich und melancholisch. Zeitweise wandelt sich die Stimmung hin zu einer kindergleichen Leichtigkeit und wohlwollenden Unbeschwertheit.

In diesem Podcast wird alles Geboten und ist für jeden was dabei. Dankeschön <3

Das letzte Open Air

Das Wetter könnte nicht besser sein. Strahlender Sonnenschein auf einen blassblauen Himmel und das Ende Oktober. Wir leben in verrückten Zeiten, doch dass hat auch sein gutes. Ziemlich spontan haben wir uns dazu entschlossen ein kleines Open Air zu veranstalten. Wieder einmal an der legendären Brücke unter den Bahngleisen am Flussufer. Innerhalb weniger Tage wurde alles Notwendige organisiert und zusammengetragen. Eine Anlage und Licht wurden gemietet, Werbung über die entsprechenden Kanäle gemacht und ein der Kühlwagen mit Getränken aufgefüllt und bereitgestellt. Gegen 15:00 Uhr begann der Rave. Im schwindenden Sonnenschein wurden feinster Downtempo & Slow House zum besten gegeben. Anschließend folgte eine Melodic Techno Einlage. Währenddessen füllte sich der Platz mit immer mehr glücklichen und ausgelassen feiernden Menschen. Die Musik wurde der Uhrzeit und der hereinbrechenden Nacht entsprechend angepasst. Die Stimmung blieb gut, erst als die Polizei kam und der Bass herunter gedreht werden musste, kam das gesamte feuchtfröhliche Treiben ein wenig ins Stocken. 
Doch trotzdem ließen wir uns unseren Spaß nicht nehmen und genossen Kollektiv das letzte Open Air für dieses Jahr. 

Der Podcast von Kiki Kokolores erinnert an eine Jungle Expedition. Ein Großteil der Instrumente klingt außerordentlich organisch und die verwendeten FX lockern die Struktur zusätzlich auf. Über eine Laufzeit von 86 Minuten morpht ein Track in den anderen über. Diese Übergange sind zwar hörbar doch wirken so integral zugehörig, dass sich alles anfühlt wie ein ausgedehntes Musikstück.

After a short trip to snowy and cosy Stuttgart to picao, the desire for sun and sea has grabbed us... . 

So today we welcome you from Florida's pearl Miami. There, of course, we had to meet Adrian aka Magician On Duty. A talented artist and manager who also brought attention to our scene in Europe with his original podcast series of the same name (https://soundcloud.com/magicianonduty/sets/journey-series). At least for all those who like organic deep house. In the course of time, Magician On Duty developed further into a label with releases by, for example, https://soundcloud.com/thomas-gaarthuis, https://soundcloud.com/david-hasert and many more. Here, too, the original spirit is preserved.

When we heard the mix for the first time a few days ago, we were a little surprised and speechless at first. Downtempo? Adrian? Basically, we had expected something else, namely his signature sound: Organic Deep House. But the first impression was deceptive. After just a few minutes, he increased the tempo to his usual level. 

His set is an exciting 'afterhours' journey into the thicket of melodic and hypnotic electronic music. In over three hours of music, he has packed in pretty much everything he has in the way of tools and hidden gems to make this mix a special one. Enriched with instrumental and vocal passages like the classic "I can't get no sleep" by Faithless, he even gives the recording a feeling of being at home and nostalgia. Alongside all the positivity, however, he doesn't forget to implement a fair amount of depth into his set. Thus, he daringly but skilfully keeps the balance between lightness and ecstasy. All in all, the mix has become an absolute cream puff, which we definitely don't want to miss anymore: Namely timeless, individual and with a lot of love for detail.

If afterhour sounds, then here. Although, the mix really does suit any time of day or night.

Besides the mix, we didn't miss the chance to ask Adrian a few questions that we don't want to withhold from you.

Q: What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

A: I liked music since I was a child, it was sort of my refuge... listening to tapes from Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, Queen and more. I guess I got more exposed to music, in general, while I was breakdancing with my friends. We were listening and training on funk, jazz and hip hop.

Q: What makes a good "afterhour"?

A: The soundtrack to an early morning party can be incredibly powerful, helping to create an atmosphere of excitement and energy. Whether it's downtempo or something more energy driven, the music can help to set the tone for the party and create a sense of unity among those in attendance. 

What makes it good? The ability to connect with everyone around you. That feeling when you look around and everyone is on the same frequency. If we are connected, we are all on the same journey. 

Q: Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?

I think this is one of my favorite sets that I have recorded, as it has all the ingredients necessary to facilitate a fantastic journey. There are so many ways that you can approach an afterhour set, I don't think there is a certain formula or format that you should use, I think the artist has the freedom to pursue any mood or genre as long as It creates a connection between people.

Sit back and relax! Because a journey awaits you that is made for an afterhour.
