This is Mia. She tragically died Monday night when a truck with 4 men out partying intentionally ran her down, circled around and ran her over again as my son and his girlfriend watched. They were out of town and stopped to get gas and Mia jumped out of the truck after being cooped up for two days. My son was heartbroken. It was painful to hear his grief. 

Mia was 11. When she was a tiny pup he found her by the side of the road in NM. Far away from a town someone must have dumped her there. She was almost dead from lack of food and water. My son immediately took her to a vet and hadn't planned on keeping her but the vet convinced him, after he saved her, to take her home. His children were ecstatic and his daughter Moya named her Mia. So I did what I usually do and poured my emotions into music. 

Pets are often like family members and losing them can be very difficult. I told my son she had 11 years she would not have had, just like myself. I first saw her about 15 months after my liver transplant. I am grateful for these years and I am sure, so was Mia. Think of the years she had, not the years she lost. Rest in Peace, Mia.

ABSTRACT SUNRISE

This acoustic guitar duo piece I wrote a while back just after visiting the Canary Islands. Now with the really warm days of the year arriving I felt the same mood coming over me as in those days on the island. So, I finished the mix and master to release it now! I hope it brings you the same summer vibe as it does for me.

The track is loosely based on a Rumba Flamenca, a palo or style of flamenco from Andalusia, Spain, however influenced by the Cuban music's version traveling back to the origin of Spain, after it's popularity in Havana's musical theatre. During the late 20th century, Paco de Lucía, together with percussionist Rubem Dantas, incorporated Afro-Peruvian musical elements such as the cajón (wooden box) and certain rhythms. That's where I came to know the style.

Sunset Meditation

My music pieces are all piano improvisations expressing emotions. It is music telling stories without the words. In my earIy years I sang and played piano in piano bars or fronted bands of different styles, from country to heavy metal and to 40. I've been composing, teaching and performing most of my life.  I'm getting old(er) now 😔 but the great thing about creating music is it gets better the longer you play, and you have more to write about! 

This is what I leave of me to my generations to come who wonder where their desire to make music comes from. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother were both accomplished pianists when they were young. My son is also exceptional.  My great grandmother and gr grandfather sang and danced in minstrel shows (vaudeville) in the early 1900's. Kids today have no idea what life was like before moving pictures.  I now have great-grandchildren. They will know who I am through my music. When I am gone my music will still be here. What a wonderful thought!
