Lights Off

Seven years ago, Oddrun and I released a beautiful collaboration titled “Smile” — a heartfelt reinterpretation of the timeless theme from Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times (1936) 🎬.  Born from a melody that once underscored silent emotions on screen, our version gave it a new voice — tender, human, and full of light.  For some reason, it never made its way to my SoundCloud page… until now. It feels like the right moment to share this piece again — a little fragment of beauty we both cherished.
 I hope it touches you as it once touched us. ✨

Smile: A Charles(music) & Oddrun(vocal) Collaboration

My sister Cindy wanted me to write music for her. It is becoming increasingly hard to play and that makes me sad.  I have lay so far back in my powerchair that I can't see the controls. I can't tolerate sitting up, it's too hard to breathe. Some days I can't even get out of bed.

My son attached a projector to my computer so my screen is now 6'x4', and I have a small keyboard I hold in my hand. So I try to keep up, but it takes much longer to do anything. ALS is not easy to deal with. It's important to stay positive and make good use of the time I have left.

Piano By Moonlight

My music pieces are all piano improvisations expressing emotions. It is music telling stories without the words. In my earIy years I sang and played piano in piano bars or fronted bands of different styles, from country to heavy metal and to 40. I've been composing, teaching and performing most of my life.  I'm getting old(er) now 😔 but the great thing about creating music is it gets better the longer you play, and you have more to write about! 

This is what I leave of me to my generations to come who wonder where their desire to make music comes from. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother were both accomplished pianists when they were young. My son is also exceptional.  My great grandmother and gr grandfather sang and danced in minstrel shows (vaudeville) in the early 1900's. Kids today have no idea what life was like before moving pictures.  I now have great-grandchildren. They will know who I am through my music. When I am gone my music will still be here. What a wonderful thought!
