Falkland Islands - Gentoo Penguins #1

Hollow interior. The whole tree juddering as the wind pulls it back and forth by the branches. Eurasian Wren; Common Chiffchaff; a pair of Common Buzzards over the woodland canopy. New creaks and old creaks; new growth and old growth. Freshly grown spring leaves. A portrait of landscape, from the tree’s own body.

‘Oak Trunk’ was realised in the composer’s private studio between March and July 2020, with support from the Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (AHRC).

No AI software of any kind was used to compose ‘Oak Trunk’. All ideas, sounds, audio processes and written notes are the unique creative output of the recordist/composer.

The Habitats Suite — I. Oak Trunk

Recorded in early morning time (5am) on the top of a hill overlooking the Pacific ocean. The microphones were positioned to a trunk between dense jungle.

Amongst other birds, you can clearly hear the Mealy Parrot (Amazona Farinosa) from 1:00 forward. I'm starting actively learn to recognize the birds and other wildlife species.

Synopsis:
Water is everywhere, is vital for the existence of life in the earth.
Our planet is like a drop moving trough the universe. This piece is a
sound journey from the clouds to the sea told with a simple narrative.
Revealing the cycle of water and how important is for our lives. Many
field recordings made in different places of the world were included
(for example : a river in Norway, the ocean in Tierra del Fuego, a sea
organ in Croatia, the rain in Brazil,  etc).

Multichannel Field recording of A Symphony Of Frogs in the Rain.

Field Recordings of the Mysterious Ringing Rocks/Montana, music made with rocks. Near Butte Montana, and part of the edge of the Boulder Batholith, is a large jumbled pile of boulders, the rocks in this unique geologic formation chime melodically when tapped lightly with a crescent wrench or mallet.

It is believed that the ringing is a combination of the composition of the rock and the way the joining patterns have developed as the rocks have eroded away, though ultimately a concrete scientific explanation has yet to be arrived at. Curiously, if a boulder is removed from the pile, it no longer rings.

Slightly different pitches and timbres emanate from thousands of rocks in the formation, and in theory Butte's Ringing Rocks could form the basic ostinato for the "Music of the Spheres."(Musica Universalis)

Beginning of spring, an iron cage with a mix of seeds attracts several birds into it. Two omni-directional microphones tied around the tree trunk capture the incredible wing movement so close that in person it might be nearly impossible to experience.

Joaquin Cófreces was born in 1975 . Sound storyteller (feature, radio art, radio drama, museum installations, field recording, sound art, soundscapes,etc) from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. He dictated conferences and workshops and has been featured by broadcasters, festivals and galleries around the world (China, Iran, India, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Belgium,Norway ,Croatia, Finland,Australia , etc.) Dedicated collector of sounds brings on his travels a recorder instead a photograph camera. Intuitive journalist, understands radio like a space of experimentation, sound as a global way of telling stories in an emotional language.He dictated workshops, conférences and talks at Berlin art University, Bauhaus Universitat Weimar, Universidad Iberoamericana de Mexico, Universidad de Buenos Aires,ETER, TEA, Centro Cultural España Cordoba,Norway, Croatia, etc. His features and radio art pieces were awarded in different festivals: Premio radio sin limites (Buenos Aires 2006), Bienal Internacional de radio (Mexico, 2006 and 2012), Premio abri los ojos (Fm Metro - Buenos Aires 2009) , 8th International radio festival (Iran 2007). 10 th International radio Festival (Iran 2009.
