From Amsterdam, via Saltillo, Berlin and London, here comes the 31st mix carefully selected for you by Worldwide FM resident Coco María (@cocomariamusic). Interview (excerpt) down below.

MFM: Hi Ana, welcome aboard the series. How's your been summer so far?

CM: Hi. Thank you! Today, I came back from We Out Here, very inspired and happy. So, right now I would say this summer I have been very lucky. I was able to travel, to play in many nice parties, and festivals with lovely crowds (big and small), met many of my friends, and made new friends.

MFM: You're originally from Saltillo, Mexico. Can you tell us a bit about growing up there?

CM: It is a city in the north of Mexico. Desert and mountains. Quite a big city. My parents are very musical people and I grew up surrounded by music and family and friends. My mom and dad always made efforts to inspire us, triggered our curiosity and they love road trips so we traveled a lot in Mexico when I was a kid.

MFM: I've read you left your studies in Mexico and moved to Europe. What was the reason for this change?

CM: I finished my university studies (Education Science and Psychology) and literally, the day after I got my diploma ( 22nd of June) I left and have been living in Europe since then. I always wanted to travel and get to know other places. When I was 18, I went to Berlin with my friend Olga, and I fell in love with the city immediately. I was very determined to go and live there. I felt it was the city and energy I needed at that time: it worked out, with a 4 years diversion through London.

MFM: Mexico knows a different culture and traditions when compared to Europe. What would you say are the main differences?

CM: At the beginning the differences were very strong to me: food, weather, people, shops, now 11 years later, the biggest difference are the daily life worries. For example, In Amsterdam, I rarely feel unsafe in the street. There are more opportunities to develop, grow and do what you love, without worrying about your personal safety or so much corruption. In Mexico, the weather and nature are amazing. The food and the warmth of the people is something I miss quite often.

MFM: This year saw your compilation 'Club Coco' being released in collaboration with Swiss label Les Disques Bongo Joe and which features all new music. How did you get to this particular selection of artists and songs?

CM: The first song I wanted to include was “A big Brain” by my friend Nic Mauskovic because I felt this had to be out there. That was what initiated the project and I curated it thinking of a line up... Imagine having all these bands together! Most of the bands are my friends or I have worked with them, it went naturally and felt very familiar.

MFM: It also includes a track of yourself, which is a highly rhythmic percussive work out with lots of brass and your vocals dubbed on top. Can you show a bit of insight in the writing and recording process of the song? Did you work with live musicians for example?

CM: The initiative was from my friend Max Weissenfeldt. He is a brilliant musician, composer and runs the label Philophon. We want to make a Jazz album. This is our first song and we recorded it in Berlin. Then he moved to Ghana, I moved to Amsterdam. And the pandemic hit. I have not seen him since january 2020! Max recorded the music with a live band in Ghana and their names are Pitches, Osei and Kung Fu´u. 

MFM: Do you have more ambition in producing your own works? Perhaps there's something in the pipeline already? 
Would love to finish that jazz album with Max, while he is in Ghana: we will work on the distance. 

MFM: Google Translate says the title 'Me Veo Volar' means 'I See Myself Fly'. Is there a nice story behind the title maybe? :)

CM: “Me veo volar” is about getting rid of fears that weigh you down… and making space for what you really want and take off! At that time I was having some realizations :)

Before Kasheme, Lou Lou earned his stripes in Berlin’s sync world. Pitching for Netflix-bound series or VICE, he represented a catalogue ranging from Cannes-certified soundtracks, to the cosmic pop of L’Impératrice, not to mention the odd cult-gems (hello, Asha Puthli!). Off the clock — he dissolved hours of his time in vinyl portals and the more soulful side of the Berlin nightlife.

Hell Yeah's lovingly curated Buena Onda series is back with a new edition that focuses on Adriatic Beats & Beyond. It has been assembled by label head Marco Gallerani and features four exclusive new tunes that reflect his summer residences at a cosy beach bar on Italy's Eastern and Adriatic coast.

Marco moved back to his hometown of Ferrara after the pandemic and began spending more time at the local seaside, the famous Lidi Ferraresi. It's there, at Lido di Spina, that a friend runs Kai Beach Bar, a small spot where, every Thursday throughout August for the last three years, he has soundtracked afternoons and sunsets under the Buena Onda banner, more than a decade after the party first started in Berlin.

"The beat has become less Balearic, more Adriatic," he explains of the sounds that can be heard up and down the coastline. "There’s no sunset culture yet, but they like a groove for aperitivo. This selection reflects the music I propose there, a kinda sunrise to sunset trip."

The 13-track selection includes four exclusives: the first is Blende's 'Amor,' which is forthcoming on the label. Johan Blende is a Swedish producer, songwriter and DJ who weaves together modern dance with retro sounds of the 70s and 80s and debuts on the label this summer with his Recess EP. 'Amor' is a bubbly groove with a New Age wash and lo-fi pads full of charm.

Hell Yeah regular and Italian magic man Walter Del Vecchio aka Quiroga also offers a new Baia Club Ambient Version of 'French Kiss' which has a lazy acid line worming its way through dubby kicks and tabla drums, and his dreamy electro soother 'Cala Ventosa' also features. Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, also tests a new EP with his 'Orange Surprise' blending off-balance rhythmic shuffles with starry cosmic melodies. The final exclusive is from Balearic Gabba Sound System, who flip The Vendetta Suite aka the legendary Gary Irwin's 'Della Notte' into a quietly epic cinematic closer with icy analogue beats and a warped bassline for dubbed out late night escape. His 'Island Hill Microdot' also offers some warped cosmic ambient house introspection.

Elsewhere, Michele Mininni features twice - once with Gallo's Tropical Hinterhof Remix of the suspensory ambient lushness pop 'Carousel of Tears' and once with the original percussive pressure and hip-house fusion of 'Urban Voodoo' from his Pop Archetypes LP. Buena Onda veteran Feel Fly comes through with an Estatico Danzante Remix of Pedro Bertho's 'Tornei' feat Mariana Gehring and takes us to the stars on twinkling keys, dusty breakbeats and steamy vocals that glow as warm as a setting sun.

Add in further groovy gems such as Bonnie and Klein's synth and vibes laced 'Horizon Avenue,' dreamy, breaks-driven downtempo brilliance from pub wave innovator Dawn Again, hints of Ibiza cool from Willie Graff's remix of Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor and some upbeat synth-laced house from label stalwart Luminodisco and you have a faultless collection of grooves for grown up dance floors.

Rollover Hangover 19 – Rocco Fusco

Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, the curator of Hotflush Recordings, a label, which having released some of the most important tracks of the formative period of dubstep, has grown into a leading player in the wider world of electronic music. A celebrated and influential DJ, Scuba was voted #25 in Resident Advisor’s 2011 poll of the world’s Top 100 DJs and has also been nominated for several categories in DJ Magazine’s Best of British 2011 Awards.

Earlier this year Scuba released his ‘Adrenalin’ EP, picking up radio plays from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank as well as Mistajam, illustrating how his sound has mutated into previously unexplored areas. Alongside ‘Adrenalin, Scuba also released his addition to K7!’s DJ-KICKS series which has made notable appearances on several "Best of 2011" lists.

On the 27th February, Scuba will release his third album through Hotflush. Entitled ‘Personality’ and featuring 11 brand new tracks, it takes in a wealth of genres across contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene. Preceding his LP will be ‘The Hope’; pushing on from the tense atmospherics of previous Scuba material, the single fizzes with claustrophobic bass pressure and menacing narration. Backed by an exclusive non-album cut 'Flash Addict', ‘The Hope’ will proceed the album on the 6th February.

Originally from London, Scuba relocated to Berlin in 2007, and released his debut album, 'A Mutual Antipathy' in 2008. The stylistic synergy of the album cemented his position as one of the most forward-thinking producers to emerge from the London bass scene. In the same year, Scuba founded the massively successful SUB:STANCE night at the legendary Berlin club Berghain. SUB:STANCE has since launched in New York with a look to expanding further in 2012.

Scuba’s second album, 'Triangulation', was released on Hotflush in early 2010, joining the likes of Mount Kimbie, Sepalcure, Joy Orbison, Untold, Sigha and George Fitzgerald on its enviable roster.

With ‘Personality’ due for imminent release and plans for a live show in the works, Paul Rose's constantly developing world seems set to keep on turning in 2012.

"Suicidal" by Amin Peck is one of the most intense italo disco songs ever. For almost 10 minutes, the listener experiences some very light male vocals tossed on top of some extremely deep synthesizer rhythm's concurring with all sorts of experimental noises and sounds. Obviously, Amin Peck enjoyed the "arpeggio" feature on his synthesizer more than the other Italians.

Like most ’80s electronic bands, Amin-Peck walked a fine line between Disco and Minimal Wave throughout the course of the early 1980s, oftentimes incorporating shameless Pop melodies and Avant-garde leanings. Amin Peck were an italian band leaded by Giorgio Fioroni (aka George Fyron, arrangements, production, vocals) with Leonard Parker (arrangments, keyboards) and Max Marne (production). Incredible but true, Amin Peck started as 'hard rock' guitar band in the 70's...  You can also find some tracks on YouTube before became one of the best examples of italo disco.
