From Nursery to Misery crawl back to Dark Entries with Tree Spirits, the follow up to 2017’s Pixies In The Woods. The project was founded in 1987, when producer and keyboardist Lee Stevens invited identical twins Gina and Tina Fear over to record in his home studio in Basildon, Essex. Four years of prodigious studio experimentation followed, resulting in two full length cassettes (1989’s The Oak Tree and 1990’s Equilibrium), and a split EP with Nostalgie Eternelle in 1990. Stalwarts of the Mail Art scene, they also appeared on over 22 cassette compilations, home-dubbed in true DIY fashion, before splitting in 1991. 
The eleven tracks on Tree Spirits display From Nursery to Misery’s signatures: chunky drum machine patterns, playfully eerie synth melodies, and Tina and Gina’s stark, nursery rhyme-esque vocals. The lyrical content ranges from dreary to grim; they explore existential despair, sexual violence, and death through an acerbic, feminist lens. Inspired by the Bladerunner soundtrack and 4AD, Lee’s production is alternatingly warm and icy, like a glacier wrapped in analog tape hiss. Stylistically, the tracks range from charmingly miserable synth pop on “Cry Me”, to the clanging rhythmic industrial of “The Daily Raper”, and even a haunting flute driven instrumental with “A Summer Morning Trip Through The Misty Woods”. From Nursery to Misery are a pure expression of the British DIY aesthetic, which is made all the more captivating by the band’s own confession that they were just trying to make pop music!
All songs on Tree Spirits were remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The cover art by Eloise Leigh features a photograph of the twins posing dramatically in the woods. Included is a 12-page booklet with lyrics, liner notes, and an archival interview with the band, as well as a bonus 1.25” square pin featuring the band’s logo.

In mid-September in 2025, a new facility opened in Tokyo, and I was commissioned to create the background music for several common areas on one of its floors. It was the largest music production project I’ve taken on so far. One of the spaces is equipped with an immersive audio system, where multi-track sound files were installed to work with a custom acoustic design and a multi-channel speaker setup.
I dedicated roughly the first half of 2025 to this project. Although the process had its challenges, it became an invaluable experience—offering me a rare opportunity to reconsider, in my own way, how environmental and ambient music can function in contemporary and public spaces. This mix is built around tracks I referenced during the production period, along with other pieces I explored in the process.

先日9月中旬にオープンした都内某施設の一部フロアの共用部分数カ所で流れるBGMを制作した。音楽制作の仕事でここまで大型のものを受けたのは初めてで、さらにそのうちの1カ所はいわゆるイマーシブ・オーディオのシステムが入っており、独自の音響設計に従って配置されたマルチ・チャンネル・スピーカーに対応するようマルチ・トラックの音源がインストールされている。
2025年、今年前半の約半年をこの制作に捧げたわけだが、困難な行程も得難い体験となり、また環境音楽やアンビエント・ミュージックについて現代的・公共空間的に（自分なりに）再考する又と無い機会となった。今回のミックスはこの制作期間に参照した楽曲と、それに伴い掘っていた曲達を軸に構成した。

Kaoru Inoue is a DJ and musician. After gaining experience as a guitarist in a band, he immersed himself in DJ culture following the rise of Acid Jazz in 1989. In 1994, he released his first track under the name Chari Chari. Since then, he has released and remixed music under his own name and various aliases on labels both in Japan and abroad.

As a DJ, he has performed at venues ranging from small clubs to large outdoor rave parties and beyond. In recent years, his DJ style—seamlessly connecting diverse sounds such as dance music, jazz, ambient, Balearic, and experimental—has earned widespread acclaim for its unique sense of aesthetics.

Trujilo's Mix September 2025

On October 10, 2025 Star Creature hosted a Techno Kayō Takeover: Rush Hour invaded Star Creature Vibes Radio for a special session of selections from and inspired by the recently released Techno Kayō Volume 1 compilation. Curated by two of the world's finest selectors and influential sound purveyors, Antal from Rush Hour in Amsterdam and Dubby from Ondas in Tokyo, the pair dive deep into the Japanese underground of obscure and abstract proto electro synth pop and boogie.

We got loose for over 4 hours worth of sonic explorations. The first hour is Antal playing some of his favorite Techno Kayō tracks followed by Dubby with a 30 minute mix of his faves.

The next hour begins the celebration of the newly released  Byron The Aquarius - Global Caress EP which was released to stores worldwide on October 10. Tim Zawada selects a few tracks from the record and mixes in a couple newer house leaning releases on Star Creature plus teases some upcoming white labels from artists such as LLL, Manny Steelo and Arsene. 

The final hour winds down with with TZ providing a selection of rare grooves, disco, boogie and jazz from around the world.

The Intolerance born in September 1983 in Cuneo, a small town in the montains near Torino, by an idea of Luca Musso, Marco Marongiu and Paolo Chiotasso, all musicians orbiting around the various high school of music expecially SMET (electronic music studio in Torino) founded by Enore Zaffiri. At the vocals was Raffaella Risso. Their cultural landmarks and music influences were Suicide, DAF, Throbbing Gristle, German electronic music scene of the years '60s/'70s, composers as Luciano Berio/Stockhausen and the new international Post-Punk/New Wave scene of the period.  The instrumentation used in the two first years of activity of the band (which is used in this album ) was Roland JX-3P, Roland Juno-106, Roland Sh-101 and Drumatrix TR-606. Between the end of 1983 and 1984 the band played in various venues and squat (as the historic Victor Charlie, in Pisa). In this period the band was menaged by Ivan Rosso and Leonardo Borghese, both 'semi-official' members of the band. The last one, Leonardo Borghese, was the "deus ex machina", founder of the independent label "Suoni dal Profondo Nord" (Notes from the Deep North), who produced the first Intolerance demo and other bands of the same town/area. Intolerance also appeared in split tape compilation enclosed on 'Amen' fanzine and "VM" compilation LP. At the end of the '80s the band split up.
After over 25 years, the music of this great italian Minimal-Synth band is finally available on vinyl!
