🔍 Why is this OK — because it’s the USA?

As a Canadian strategist working in innovation and systems design, I’ve long admired the boldness of American ambition. But admiration must not lead to silence when that ambition turns inward — into fear, regression, and systemic harm.

Right now, the U.S. is expanding detention camps, proposing migrant prisons in swamps, and considering the reopening of Guantanamo Bay — for asylum seekers.

At the same time:
	•	Black Americans are incarcerated at 5–6x the rate of white Americans.
	•	Private prison companies profit while families are torn apart at borders.
	•	Civil rights are being rewritten in real-time under the guise of “security.”

Let’s be honest about the roots here.

The U.S. — in all its power and influence — once invented slavery and thought it was a good idea.
Today’s mass incarceration and migrant detention policies are not new systems.
They are updated blueprints of racialized control — rebranded, repackaged, and revenue-generating.

We can admire innovation, but we must question injustice.
Canada has its own work to do. But this moment? It belongs to all of us.
