Fresh off a year of extensive coast-to-coast touring, SOOHAN returns with COLLECTIVE EFFERVESCENCE, a new album of found and remixed material that showcases his most receptive tracks from the year prior. Collective Effervescence is named for the sociological concept coined by Èmile Durkheim, which generally states that when people come together as communities, they retain the ability to act as one.

Such is the truth of how your bodies all over North America responded to this visceral selection of Soohan's newest remixes and edits, often meant directly for festival crowds. Worldly rhythms abound as Soohan introduces you to the likes of Adèle & Zalem, A-WA, Sukhwinder Singh & Vijay Prakash, and Ana Tijoux through 808-tinged lenses. Interspersed are moments of re-interpreted pop genius. On November 3rd Desert Trax presents Ayahuasca Remixed from Brazilian-born artist Poranguí Carvalho McGrew, translated and remixed through the lenses of visionary producers like Shamans Dream,AtYyA, Drumspyder, Kaminanda,Liquid Bloom, Numatik, Yaima, and many others. These 11 tracks were born from a prayer to bridge worlds from the consciousness of the master plant medicine onto the dance floor. It came to life through the meeting and friendship with musician and producer Sahuna Love (Shaman's Dream), and blossomed with the help of Amani Friend (Desert Dwellers & Desert Trax). Each song weaves the medicine of the original, while beckoning listeners to explore and express their prayers or meditations through embodied movement. Experimentation is nothing new to SOOHAN, and yet, the borders to his musical journey seemingly have no boundary.

Touching down with his sixth full-length project, SOO SOO STUDIO, Soohan further erases walls between genre and blurs lines between original compositions and sampled material, all while diving into new musical territory. Sounds from classic American pop music, house, Baltimore club, and drum and bass blend with Soohan's distinct affinity for regional folk and dance music styles from around the world - a rededication to his mission of drawing the path from foreign to familiar.

At 13 tracks and just over an hour in running time, SOO SOO STUDIO marks Soohan's most diversely-sourced work to date. Unfolding as a journey through an array of seemingly incongruous influences, the sounds come together with effortless style, leading the listener through a meandering rush of sounds, culminating in a euphoric finish. A must-hear experience for fans of polyrhythmic dance, club music, and rhythms from beyond the western world.

"Alongside the title, the term “organic” is manifested in two unique ways within this personal and introspective project. First, it depicts the organic side of acoustic instruments. It illustrates the warmth and richness of ethnic instruments and the emotions that visual images may elicit. The tracks featured are mixed with deep, energetic electronic rhythm and atmosphere to travel along a musical journey. Second, it is organic by being rooted to nature, in connection with the essence of life. Organic contrasts with the technological world, which tends to distance people from the essence of life over time. This EP evokes the desire to become aware and to stay grounded through mind traveling music".

Gravitas Recordings is pleased to release Circulate Vol. 1, a global bass compilation curated by David Starfire and SOOHAN. This compilation boasts an impressive roster full of original tracks, remixes, and collaborations with eclectic artists such as Kaya Project, An-ten-nae, Desert Dwellers, Beats Antique, and CloZee, to name a few. Circulate was created in support of Beyond the Grade, a grassroots 501(c)3 not-for-profit Austin-based charity that provides after school music education for underserved children. 

Over the years, Austin musicians have donated their time to Beyond the Grade in teaching various programs, camps, and classes such as beats, live performance, drum kits, keyboard/piano, and guitars. Music is proven to positively increase people’s happiness, learning, and creativity; however, many schools are not able to fund music education. David Starfire and SOOHAN understand first-hand how beneficial it can be towards cognitive development and self-esteem in children, and they are excited to spread Beyond the Grade’s mission among the electronic music community through Circulate.

Another mission of Circulate was to advocate the global bass music community that is growing around the world. This compilation spotlights different sounds and features artists from around the United States, Finland, Ghana, Canada, Hungary, Angola, Poland, France, the UK, and more who contribute to create cutting-edge music that is a fusion of traditional cultural music mixed with modern beats, bass, and rhythms. There is a movement in music with different cultures coming together musically with dance music, as dance crosses all languages and is a language of its own to be understood universally. From celebrations to rituals, dance brings people together. With the internet, anyone can listen to music from another culture and fuse it with dance music to create a unique version to share with others. This global bass compilation was created with the understanding that people are interested in being educated about music from around the world and hearing sounds that are outside of the norm. Beyond the Grade was the perfect charity to partner with for this compilation, and 100% of net proceeds will be donated to assist in “keeping music alive in Austin schools.”
