Even though he lived in the Netherlands for a while, Japanese producer and sound sculpturer So Oishi first discovered SoHaSo on his return to Tokyo, where he now resides. The Lithospere EP is his impressive debut for the Utrecht-based label. 

https://soundcloud.com/sooishi's music has a unique soothing sensation while its psychedelic undertone resonates on various levels. The four tracks on this EP are simply phenomenal, whether you are into deep ambient soundscapes (Lithosphere, Rays), wonky break beats (BLOSC Figure One) or seeking a decisive Japanese answer to early Autechre-records (Nighthawk). 

While in The Hague, So Oishi studied algorithmic composition and sound synthesis at the Royal Conservatory. "I was doing geeky programming and developed my own software synthesizer and a composition program when I was there", he looks back on his Dutch years. He still uses both elements in his compositions from time to time. And it shows, because So Oishi has carved out his very own unique sound on the Lithospere EP.

So Oishi crafts music that evokes the paradoxical nature of the Earth's lithosphere: a surface serenity belying a churning, vibrant undercurrent. The upcoming "Lithosphere" EP exemplifies this quality, offering four distinct terrains for sonic exploration. 

Our premiere today, the title track "Lithosphere," embodies this dichotomy perfectly. Ethereal whispers hang in the air, like the faint tremors felt beneath the Earth's crust. The eerily beautiful atmosphere is layered over a deep, rumbling groove. Glassy pads shimmer like subterranean crystals, while bass stabs punctuate the soundscape with the percussive force of tectonic shifts. This subtle tension between tranquility and subterranean energy makes "Lithosphere" perfect for those seeking a unique after-hours experience.
The entire "Litosphere" EP arrives on March 8th via Something Happening Somewhere.

PREMIERE: So Oishi - Lithosphere [SoHaSo]

SoHaSo presents a second compilation to celebrate their 11th birthday: Horizons. 11 tracks by current artists on the Utrecht-based record label.
 
11 Horizons will mark the route it is taking. It will be a long and winding road across futuristic dance floors and over soothing electronic fields. The album opens with two blissful chillout tracks. Label stalwart https://soundcloud.com/bas-dobbelaer draws the route for some serious laid-back unwinding. Or should we say rewinding, since the drum machine sometimes seems to move backwards.

Japanese super talent https://soundcloud.com/sooishi dives deep into details with a wonderful dreamy contribution. Ophelia has the same dubby feel as RAMZi but comes with a clear Asian twist. https://soundcloud.com/milio-101 debuts on SoHaSo with a dub-infused and slightly melancholic club track, while https://soundcloud.com/humanspacemachine drags us into the acid vortex.

While Horizons mainly contains new material, SoHaSo also looks back occasionally to give forgotten classics new life. Digital Fingerprint by Biological came out in 1998 on the now forgotten record label EC. More than 25 years later, its bouncy break beats still sound super fresh.

Dutch Techno producer https://soundcloud.com/quincemusic doesn't release much, but when he does it's always dope. Can't Hear You is spot on Detroit electro with a mighty strong punch. Label owner Nuno dos Santos delivers a melancholic beatless clubtool under his https://soundcloud.com/dwaalgast108 moniker. No kicks nor baslines but tons of Detroit-ish soul. 
 
Newcomer Small Solar System Body (https://soundcloud.com/david-hulsken) dives deep into dubtechno with Echoes of Entropy. Next year, SoHaSo releases an album by this talented producer. Dance veteran https://soundcloud.com/remyunger takes the route to motorcity Detroit on Mimpel, a driving techno track with beautiful keys and intricate melodies. 

After two albums, Far Out Radio Systems (https://soundcloud.com/thomasneyens) is ready for more goodies on SoHaSo. This City Is Ill paints a bleak future though, with its strong sentiments and black keys. Closer Rotiriot is by Dutch producer https://soundcloud.com/love-over-entropy, who only used one synthesizer for his upcoming album on SoHaSo, a Yamaha DX11. If you're into early Aphex Twin, you will love this.

So Oishi - Ophelia

Sungate joins friends and family with a V.A in support of the victims of the storms in Valencia.
 
On October 28th, flash floods decimated the better part of the southern and western areas of Valencia, alongside many other points of Spain. What followed was a catastrophic event resulting in storm surges, collapsing bridges, thousands stuck on roads and streets, ultimately leading to a death toll that is now estimated over 200, and unfortunately, rising.
 
Homes, animal shelters, businesses and families have been destroyed by this catastrophe. An event that caught thousands out in the street, heading to and from school, work, and daily lives unalerted. Severe warnings only got to our phones 10 hours after, despite being warned by weather centers and flood prevention institutions for days.
 
With Sungate’s staff both residing and having ties to the city, we’ve decided to release “Healing Rays”, a compilation of 22 tracks by artists close to the label to gather funds to re-distribute to those most in need, buy essential products and help in the re-construction of a damaged region. We are joining a series of charitable releases from others in the city that has seen a wave of supporting press, and more importantly, an overwhelming amount of support. 
 
We are infinitely thankful to Marco Spaventi for mastering this release and all the artists that have given their music away for the cause.

If you are into psychedelic and adventurous electronica, you'll love So Oishi's second EP for the Dutch record label SoHaSo. Herbology is a five-part trip where acoustic and electronic elements merge in slow motion. On his last record, The Lithospere EP, Japanese producer So Oishi showed off his skills in a variety of styles. But this time, Oishi keeps things slow and dreamy for most of the ride. 

The opening track, The Opposite Shore, has a Heart of Darkness-kinda vibe, with strange noises emerging from the river banks somewhere deep in the jungle. On Canopy Rites, we've seem to have reached an African village, judging by the tribal rhythms coming from the shacks ashore. 

Next up is Artemis, the only proper club track on this otherwise intimate EP. With its kick drums and howling bass, it reminds us of early Underworld productions. It’s a surprising center piece on Herbology. With Sinking and Herbology we're back in chill out territories, where acoustic instruments like tablas and flutes float harmonically with electronic soundscapes. 

Japanese producer https://soundcloud.com/sooishi has carved out his little safe space on planet SoHaSo and we rather like it there. We hope you do too.

So Oishi is an electronic music composer, DJ, and software developer from Tokyo, Japan. He primarily focuses on producing deep and leftfield techno, broken beat, ambient, and electronica with psychedelic atmosphere. As a solo artist, he has released two EPs on the Dutch label Something Happening Somewhere @sohaso : “Lithosphere”(2024) and “Herbology”(2025). He is also part of the unit Dawn Ever @dawnever with Japanese DJ ΛSYL @asylcahier, and together they released a downtempo album “Aurora Saltans” (2024) on the Mexican label Secuencias Temporales. As an engineer, he is also involved in the development of music-generating program.
