Taken from sootytern's second e.p. "Who Does Not Know The Famous Swan".

sootytern… “what?”, “it’s a bird!”, “oh..”  are Jayson (Vocals/Ukelele), Fenton (Mandolin), Peet (Bass) and Ewan (Drums). They are best known for playing sessions in caves. Hailing from Cumbria and now based across the north-west, they play folk/pop avian/science-based loveliness.

The e.p. (release on 28/10/12) encompasses the band’s love for the lake district and our apparent mortality. The title stems from a quote in the William Wordsworth poem “The Waggoner” and eloquently sums up Ewan’s (a.k.a. Swan’s) passion for elegant posture and hissing at strangers. In particular, their track “Grasvagas” directly addresses the band’s fondness for the fast-paced nightlife of Grasmere, its link with Wordsworth and mysteries of Wastwater. 

The e.p. was engineered in a variety of DIY locations (rehearsal rooms, bedsits, barns) by the band’s mandolinist Adam Fenton and mixed/mastered by Alex Brickman, a talented American expat based in Lancaster. Due to the bands sheer commitment to their day jobs, most of their performance was recorded in late night sessions with relentless stints between staple towns Lancaster, Liverpool and Barrow.
