This music piece is created by Sophie Emmanouilidou, as a musical effect for the video "thundervideo", a video created by Christiana Papakosta.

Christiana Papakosta is a graduated student of the school of Visual and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki ans Sophie Emmanoulidou is an undergraduated student of the school of Musicology of the same university.

In 2016, the work was played during the 30th celebration of the founding of the Music department. This piece combines the existance of music, image and technology at the same time, and how the technology change the whole outcome of the work.

Sound is recorded and designed by Stephen Katsavos.

A Shadow's Dream

This music piece is composed for violin, viola, cello and alto recorder, in the context of a presentation,which was held for students of the composition section of Music studies, School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The music piece "Lost Time" was played for the first time in public, by some members of  the famous chamber orchestra “Contra Tempo”, an orchestra based in Thessaloniki, Greece. The work was performed by Kostas Kampantais (violin player, member of “Contra Tempo”), Thanassis Sourgounis (violin and viola player, orchestra director) Maria Anisegou (cello player, member of “Contra Tempo”) and Apostolis Kotsogiannis (recorder player, graduate student in the Music Department in University of Macedonia, Greece in section of composition) on 1/6/2017 in Vafopoulio Cultural Centre, Thessaloniki, Greece.

It consist of three parts:
1. The Proem
2. Trying to make conversation
3. Conclusion

This piece is considered as a soundscape composition. It describes a journey by a car, a journey which was every child's favorite lullaby around the 90's

This piece was composed in the context of “Sound Design” module of Sonic Arts and Audio Technologies Master’s Degree, an interdepartmental Master’s of School of Music & Audiovisual Arts, Departments of Music Studies and Audio and Visual Arts of Ionian University, Corfu, Greece.

"A Day into the Forest" piece is also included in my "Soundscape Compositions" collection

The above composition, therefore, is considered as a piece of soundscape composition. It describes a day into the forest, a journey full of surprises!

A Day into the Forest

Sophia Emmanouilidou was born and raised in Greece. In 2013, she moved to Thessaloniki since she started studying at the university.

She studied Music Composition at Bachelor’s and Master’s level (5-years degree equivalent to an integrated master’s) in School of Fine Arts, Faculty of Music Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR) under the supervision of Prof. Michalis Lapidakis. She studied also composition with Prof.Christos Samaras,Prof. Dimitris Papageorgiou and Prof Dimitris Maronidis. In 2020 she graduated from Aristotle University and she was admitted at the intersectional Master’s Programme “Arts and Technologies of Sound” at Ionian University of Corfu (GR).

She currently focuses on electronic compositions as well all multidisciplinary compositions for acoustic instruments and tapes or media. The combination of acoustic instruments and digital counterparts not only requires instrumental knowledge but also technological one. The main purpose of such projects is the exploration of new ways of translating music and sound into colours/lights/shapes and images or videos in order to create synesthetic experiences. In this way Sophia tries to get a glimpse of what music perception of synesthesia encounters so as to make a “mere” (as it can be) translation from music and sounds into visual stimulation. In 2018, Sophia in collaboration with Christiana Papakosta founded project “Echotopia”, a project that combines music performance with visual elements.



Sophia has participated in lots of compositional competitions, calls for scores and composition master classes, such as the call for scores which was held in 2016 by Patricia Surman and master classes under the supervision of Prof. Christian Benvenuti and Reinhold Friedl (artistic director and pianist of “Zeitkratzer”). In 2017, she has been selected to take part in the “8th Contemporary Music Lab”, a project organised by Thessaloniki Concert Hall in collaboration with the Faculty of Music Studies, School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her work “Evasions” (2017) has been premiered at Thessaloniki Concert Hall (GR) by Ria Georgiadi (Flute teacher at Ionian University) and Fotis Koutsothodoros (Guitar).

Sophia also has obtained a diploma in flute performance in Ano Poli’s Conservatoire, Thessaloniki (GR). Furthermore, she has a diploma in Harmony, which she obtained in the Conservatorium "Neo Odeio", Edessa (GR). In 2020, she started attending classes for Counterpoint diploma in Ano Poli’s Conservatorium. Sophia used to study piano and guitar (classical and electric) and she was a member of two alternative rock bands, back in 2010. Moreover, as a flute performer she has participate in lots of bands, orchestras and ensembles and she also was member of various choral settings. In 2020, she joined improvisation ensemble 6daEXIt.

She currently works as an orchestrator for the flute Orchestral “Sin+Avlites”, in which she participates also as a member, and the Orchestra of Ano Poli’s Conservatory. From 2017 she also works as a music teacher in private sessions and various institutions. 

​

Sophia, as a musician and as a person, is very open-minded and in search of new ways to broaden her horizons around music and music perception in general. As it was mentioned above, she is fully devoted to music, and to what music can provide in general, in a psychological way, but also as a personal experience as well as social phenomenon.

​

Other topics which interest her are psychology, music improvisation, experimental music, music analysis of scores, music production and electro-acoustic studies of producing and analysing sounds.
