There was a fox that took my things with a kiss

Blue Hour

A wintery song I made while walking to work in the cold mornings. I don't know about you, but I always need many cosy, nice things to counter the weather and the general darkness. This song is about these nice aspects of winter, like long walks, warm cups of tea and the people you can meet after the long, cold days.

When I was young there was an ugly house
it looked like a pile of dirt
the only living soul I ever saw there
was a man with rust upon his shirt

the windows broken and the doors so wide 
they looked like they could drag
a little girl like me into them 
and never bring her back

There were doors so wide, and the red leaves, as they fell
and the noise in there, like it came right out of hell

Then I got older and I knew I had to pass that ugly house
inside was nothing I could fear except some roaches and a mouse
still I have to admit I was happier than I could ever say
when I got fourteen and that old thing was no longer on my way

Today I walked again, past that old forgotten dreaded street
I saw the fresh cut grass, I felt the old stones underneath my feet
and as I looked across the street at that old thing so very near
I knew at once it was not an old ugly house that I should fear

and the noise in there, like it came right out of hell...
