French electronic trio Jabberwocky are back with bangers. After 2 albums released on Polydor/Universal Music, 4 years of touring, and millions of views on streaming platforms and Youtube, the group of long time friends independently released a series of EPs with italodisco and 80’s clubs high energy influences. The producers are now imposing their italo-disco shift by announcing a new album to come in June 2021. “Feeling Dancing Tempo” is saturated with powerful beats and analog sounds inspired by space music and guaranteed to make you dance.

Named after a Lewis Carroll poem and consisting of three friends in Camille Camara (piano conservatoire), Emmanuel Bretou (self-taught guitar and bass), and Simon Pasquer (sampling and MAO), there’s a wonderfully organic sense of chemistry between each member. Best known for their hit single “Photomaton”, Jabberwocky are now looking to evolve past their previous sounds into wholly new territory.

Equally inspired by sci-fi films, Italodisco, and Salvador Dali, there’s multidimensional layers to Jabberwocky’s music that reveals new details with every listen. They’ve also been influenced by the energy accrued from years of touring alongside a recent move to Paris that’s engulfed them in the city’s long-standing culture. 

« Feeling Dancing Tempo »  is an electronic romance, dynamited by powerful beats and a bass, with analog sounds inspired by space music. it expressed an emergency sentiment and a soft melancholia carried by this voice from another place, an imminent need to feel alive.

Berlin-based platform DARKDISCO.ORG kicks off 2022 with a beautiful release: A 12-track NAME YOUR PRICE VA album whose profits will be donated to help the local animal shelter. Several artists from across the world were invited to the project, delivering a wide scope of genres and soundscapes: Romance Disaster, Morze (SXDNS151), Randolph & Mortimer vs. Vittorio Di Mango, Zimo, Ruksby (SXDNS256) & MAN2.0 (SXDNS081/FREEDL002), James Demon, One Flesh Infektion, Psilodump & Berlin Bunny, Kokeshi Milk, Gegen Mann (SXDNS220), Format Error, and Notausgang spared no efforts to provide top-notch pieces.

Premiered here, the hammer collaboration between acclaimed British artist MAN2.0 and rising Russian producer Ruksby. “So Familiar” brings the duo successfully flirting with their EBM, Industrial & Cold Wave influences, resulting in a mighty and sturdy theme with a fat and bouncing bassline topped with proper percussive elements and crisp arpeggiated synth layers. We honestly expect the lads get together more often to bring to life more cuts like this.

David Agrella returns to his Agrellomatica Records with the trippy house sounds of ‘Freedom Unfolding’, featuring remixes from N-Gynn & Beroshima.

Italian-born, London-based DJ and producer David Agrella’s reputation as one of the city’s must-check selectors continues to blossom as he explores the many shades of electronic music through his Bloop radio show and Agrellomatica Records imprint. Fresh from the label’s second release ‘Robot Romance’, supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Fred P, Jane Fitz, Jennifer Cardini and Rossko, Agrella returns to close March via his spaced-out house EP ‘Freedom Unfolding’. Remixes are delivered by London favourite N-Gynn (Pleasure Club) known for drawing on left-field, ravey sounds and esteemed German live techno act and Muller Records/Acid Orange boss Beroshima.

Elastic basslines and tumbling percussion unfasten the A-Side with ‘Walking Loud’ as sinister synths convulse around the beat before N-Gynn provides a frisky reshape with sharp snares, golden keys and subtle, loopy vocal samples on a chuggier tip. The eclectic experience continues on the B-Side with title track ‘Freedom Unfolding’ as swinging basslines carry dream-like pads and fluttering samples, while Beroshima’s acid-infused, broken beat rework provides an anthemic finale to the release.

The outside world was a mystery to him; there was an innate sense of fear that came with the idea of human interaction. Every day he sat slumped behind his computer from dusk till dawn, sucked into the digital world. This was his reality now - this was where he'd met his friends, formed his romantic relationships, shared his secrets and found his voice. The normality of everyday life just wasn't for him, he preferred this way of living and he wouldn't change it for anybody.

We all love a bit of trance don't we? Well Rigson's next outing, a return to Grenoble-based label Shoganai following 2020's Private Hell EP, will do much to satisfy your euphoria cravings. The Amsterdam-based producer and label boss of Ganzfeld Records follows more recent contributions to both his own imprint and LYO's last Driving Blind compilation with 'Digital Tears'. The EP features a remix from Nthr1 and two original versions - one electro and one trance - the latter of which is giving us proper early Ibiza energy with its lush, Balearic pads and emotive acid lines.

Somewhere between these two questions exists this seismic slab of dark post-disco drama from Leipzig duo @newhook: ‘Manipulation’. A track to make you consider the extents of how much you manipulate your environment and how much it manipulates you; ‘Manipulation’ first came to life in 2018. The same year Riotvan introduced the duo to the world on their ‘Familiar Faces’ VA collection. Four years, and various releases on the likes of Ombra and Live At Robert Johnson, later and the original version of ‘Manipulation’ has recently been released on Underground Pacific album ‘The Only Good Wave Is A New One’. But there’s more to story... Now redeveloped and reworked, ‘Manipulation’ has been manipulated into this epic club missile on Riotvan. Electrified and strident in its swagger, this new version maintains the duo’s sultry, provocative vocal but carries much more dancefloor weight. Every bit as sharp and to the point as the name 

New Hook suggests, it’s also been blessed with an equally forthright twist from dark disco don @cursesforever who brings a little added funk to the bassline, manipulating the already manipulated ‘Manipulation’ with his own unique flare. Now it’s time for your turn to manipulate it in the mix...

HRDF: Who are you ?
JS: I am Juniore Super, co-founder of the SUPER Daronne collective based in Bordeaux. I have always been passionate about music and started making music at a young age, playing several instruments. When I discovered electronic music for the first time I saw the opportunity to mix all my past inspirations through mixing. Playing records allows me to put my idea of the most adequate music in a given context. It's this role as a transmitter of emotions or culture that I find captivating. Today I also have another role, that of holding an artistic direction and programming the electronic segment of the lBOAT in Bordeaux. It's something that suits me quite well I think because I am very curious and adventurous in this passion. Music is above all a sharing, introspections as much as meetings! I am very happy to be able to participate in the creative effort with this piece and to give an account of my musical interpretation beyond my turntables.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
JS: I've always had a bit of a nostalgic view of music, I'm quite a fan of the raw, analog production methods of the previous century. When looking for vinyl beyond the record shops, you'll end up browsing through a lot of old stuff in an attic, in your family's collection or on flea markets. This record was in a batch that I had recovered to clear a friend during the confinement. I always had this little challenge to try to find a nice surprise. To do that, you have to listen to everything without leaving out any details. And that's how, in the middle of this popular 45, I discovered this slightly hidden synth pop track.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
JS: First of all I think this song appealed to me by its title and the lyrics of the original version. It was composed in 1985 and from a certain point of view it is very topical. During the confinement it was even disturbing! So I decided to make a more current and futuristic version, as if the original was stranded on a new land, the Terra Novae.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
JS: Today I really take to heart my new job as a programmer, it's a great experience that allows me to explore the current scene and learn every day. I also play almost every weekend and I continue to share the music I collect, it's really good to be able to dance again! I'm lucky enough to be able to do it alone or with my friends from SUPER Daronne depending on the dates so I enjoy it. For the moment the production is more like a few hours here and there because it all takes time, I will publish new stuff one day maybe or maybe not ! I don't put any pressure on myself at all, I think the most important thing is to do music with sense and passion.
