Our Season Closing will encompass some artists that crafted their own magic over the last year. Sandrita and her usual sidekicks are rumbling through the treacherous jungle🌴, navigating the many pitfalls of the most inhospitable of environment.🐍
Their best bet is to remain packed in an organised band around the Disko Ball🪩🪩🪩, their sole source of light, and, very likely, sole source of life...
But Sandrita is not one to go without a try! Gathering all her lucidity and vital energy, she deploys Grüber The Dragger🐌 and Alastair The Dandy Duck🐤 in order to form a perfect Triangle around the Disko Ball. It is said that nobody can channel the Tropical Vibrations, but for the very very first time it would be done, and by none other than Sandrita The Doe/Donkey (we are still unsure of her kind), bringing the groove to a climax around the Disko Ball, and transforming the hostile jungle into a buzzing Carnaval!

At the close of another burn with my Sunset Town camp the Sunday Sunset came around and I drove up to the back of The Shack.
Because why walk…when you can bugggy!
Well, actually in fact the buggy was quite essential this time because a wee few hours before I had gone into the sleep of a dead man after one hell of a Saturday burn night that went well into the sunrise, well over the midday time and only just now was hastily woken up by my lovely cowgirl after my wee disco nap with only 30 Minutes until I had to press play! 
They. All. Let. Me. Sleep. Ahhhhhhhh :) but Whoah!!!
Coffee Pants Vest Poncho. Hat. Deeeeeep breath. Splash of cold water.
USB Headphones Recorder. Lets go Buggy! Varoom
The wedding was about to begin and my DJ friends had the field vibing… I could feel it from my campsite that’s for damn sure and I as drove up, just wow.
After the ceremony celebrating this love it was to be my turn, finally.
I was super pumped to drop the closing set as always but so dreamy as you can imagine after the weekend we all were having that I can’t even begin to describe. It was an epic feeling.
I probably could have slept until Monday but instead what you have here is 4 hours of musical bliss for me that passed so quickly and so amazingly that by the end I felt like I could have kept playing until Monday!
The Shack Shook and I really wanted for nothing during this set as friends passed up food and drink, vibes and Love. The sun went down, the fires were lit and we danced hard into the earth as The Shack’s Doppias exhaled deeply.
Sunset Town lives and breathes like this. 
And I as well, live for moments like this.
What a weekend…. Again.

2017 moved so fast, I could hardly believe it was once again time to prepare for our favorite time of the year, our return to Black Rock City, my 4th time in a row. Once again I was given the privilege of playing the bus with so many artists I respect and admire.

Being that this was Robot Heart's 10 year anniversary, I wanted to do something special. I have wanted to play a live set of all original music for quite some time, and decided this was the perfect opportunity to do it. So I sifted through all of my projects, old and new, finding the ones that I felt would resonate. Finally I came away with over an hour of brand new unreleased material including some collabs with some special friends (Thugfucker, Hands Free, and Dance Spirit). It was truly an honor performing this set to the Robot Heart family during the Man Burn, a moment I will never forget. I hope it resonates with you in some way.

Jon Charnis - Robot Heart 10 Year Anniversary - Burning Man 2017

It just so happens to be my birthday today. Twenty eight! This past year has seen a lot of change - most notably, leaving my job, my DJ residency, my family and my partner (temporarily) in San Francisco to move back to Berlin for a little while. It’s sometimes been a challenging transition, but that’s pretty much what I expected. I miss my community, and yet I also feel at home here and excited to dive deeper into music and design.

I haven’t posted a mix in quite a long time. 6 months, actually. That’s an eternity in the DJ world, where posting once a month is the expectation. To be honest, while I’ve had some really great gigs during this time, few of them were of the quality (or memorability) I felt I’d want to have up for posterity on my Soundcloud. I was super happy with my Brooklyn set and my Tara Brooks Tutu Tuesday set in February and March, and it felt like I wasn’t outdoing myself…until recently!

So, for my birthday, I’m giving you the gift! I’m finally getting around to posting my set from Burning Man - one of only two DJ commitments I chose to play this Burn, and worth every minute of it. Like many of my sets, this one navigates melodic, deep, and even wildly colorful waters. Unlike many of my sets, this one was played to a completely packed, spilling-out-the-doors Dance Church at the Monks of Funk. What I found interesting while going over the recording was that, despite the incredibly packed venue, sometimes you can barely hear the crowd at all. At first, this was confusing - I remember the place being filled with energy… but then I realized that the crowd up front was just too focused on dancing to chatter. That’s a good sign!  (Secret secret- this set also features a work-in-progress remix I'm producing. See if you can spot it...)

Celebrating this weekend with my Berliner friends and roommates, and the fact that I finally have built a music studio of my own. I’ve got a lot of hard work ahead, but it’s what I want:)

If you're in Berlin sometime in the next year or so, don't hesitate to look me up. I may even be playing a gig occasionally (will be posting about that soon... )
