On March 24, 2017, House Republicans failed to pass their proposed healthcare bill. Temporarily, this left the Affordable Care Act in place. I went to the Stop N' Shop parking lot in Falmouth, MA, to hear residents' reactions to the news.

Phil Mello has been photographing New Bedford’s working waterfront for over 40 years. He started as an amateur, documenting the inner world of the fishing industry in which he worked. Now, his photography has become part of a major historical preservation project for the Library of Congress. Sophie Kazis brings you the story.

When the AIDS epidemic devastated the country in the 1980s, Provincetown was hit particularly hard. In the first fifteen years of the crisis, 10% of the town’s year-round population died. The events of those years still reverberate. In this piece, survivors remember what they lost, what they built, and the impact of AIDS on this small, close-knit beach community.
