With over five decades of success and influence, Vincent Montana Jr., Producer, Arranger, Composer, Conductor and renowned Vibraharpist, continues to be a vital force in music today. With countless gold and platinum awards to his name, his contribution and dedication to the music industry has inspired and profoundly affected many producers, DJs, artists, musicians, listeners and dancers alike. 

Among the numerous credits to his name, Montana is most recognized for his integral role in both the development of 'The Philadelphia Sound' as key MFSB rhythm section member and established studio musician for Philadelphia International Records as well as dance pioneer of the 'Disco Era' as the creative and driving force behind the legendary Salsoul Orchestra. Further contributions include his remarkable productions with The Montana Orchestra and Goody Goody (Atlantic Records) and particularly, the signature club classics on his own “Philly Sound Works” label.

Given the era in which these recordings were made, the music of Vincent Montana, Jr. was produced with a futuristic perspective; this is evident due to the fact that his grooves and riffs are still being sampled and utilized to this day. The staying power of his enduring career is certainly because of his exceptional good taste and diversified talent, but also is the fact that although he is firmly rooted in traditional instruments and ways, he has managed to embrace newer styles and to use technology to his advantage.

Even now Montana continues to make his mark on the industry, whether directly through his efforts with today's most prominent artists and producers - Dimitri From Paris: "The Way You Love Me", Masters At Work: “Nuyorican Soul”, “The Boss”, “Always There”, David Morales: Pet Shop Boys “New York City Boy” or indirectly via sampling of his catalogue - DJ Spiller: “Groovejet-If This Ain’t Love”, Mariah Carey: “O.O.C.–Out Of Control” and the latest sample, Estelle Ft. Rick Ross: “Break My Heart”. Both the man and his music show no signs of slowing down. He returns once again with his latest projects complete with lush strings, distinct arrangements, cool vibes and all the added touches, quality, musicianship and originality expected of a “Montana Production”.

Following the immediate success of the first two releases on A&R Edits, issued side by side back in May, comes the third instalment, a split 12” with transatlantic reworks served up by the UK’s Sophie Lloyd and the USA’s F.A.M.E. collective.

First up under the re-edit razor is Herb Alpert's 'Rise', a track that reached number one on the US chart upon its release in 1979, making Alpert the first (and only) artist to reach Billboard’s Hot 100 with a vocal ('This Guy's in Love with You', 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. ‘Rise’ was also famously played on import by DJ’s on the UK Jazz-Funk scene at 45rpm (rather than the correct speed, 33rpm). In 1997, the track found a new lease of life when sampled by Sean 'Puffy' Combs, becoming the instrumental bed for Notorious B.I.G.'s hip-hop classic, 'Hypnotise'. Now, 16 years on, London-based producer and DJ Sophie Lloyd breathes fresh life into this infectious groove, crafting a timely dubbed-out rework that's been a highlight of Greg Wilson's sets this summer.

On the flip, the Detroit collective F.A.M.E. don their disco guise for 'Love Making Love 2 U', an edit of the cult 1981 Boogie cut, ‘I Love Makin Love To You’ by Mel Sheppard, another choice tune for Wilson this festival season. The edit first came to his attention when he went to Detroit in June to play the Movement Festival Appreciation Party at the TV Lounge and, during the afternoon soundcheck, heard DJ Mike Petrack playing it. After enquiring, Mike gave Greg a copy, which he played that night to great response. It was also at this same event that he first played Sophie’s ‘Rise’ edit: Gregwilson – Movement-appreciation-party-tv

So both tracks, with their Detroit connection and raw-edge in common, seemed a solid combination for an A&R release.

The latest release from Greg Wilson’s Super Weird Substance sees a return of The Super Weird Society; an amalgamation of the label’s vocalists – Kermit Leveridge, Katherine and Carmel Reynolds and The Reverend Cleve Freckleton. 

Following on from the memorable 14 Hour Super Weird Happening in Liverpool in April, which saw a live performance of the much-loved ‘Alan Moore’s Mandrill Meets The Super Weird Society At The Arts Lab Apocalypse’ mixtape, Super Weird Substance are back releasing music, building on the support received for the first 8 releases in 2015. 

Since the Mandrill mixtape, there's been much creation at SWS HQ and SWSD009 is the first official release from this new crop of tracks, some of which will be performed in the new 'Super Weird Jam' at Remember Love in Liverpool the weekend following the release. The 'Super Weird Jam' incorporates Xjukebox's The Isrights into a live semi-improvised performance and the label's four vocalists with Cleve on keys, performing through covers and Super Weird favourites.

Written by Henry Greenwood, Kermit Leveridge, The Reynolds and producer, Greg Wilson, the disco funk jam ‘Gone With The Vibe’ has been a big summer favourite for GW this year, with Henry’s Extended Mix being his weapon of choice.

DoctorSoul is one of the hottest Parisian Disco & Soul producers, who releases his music a.o. on Yam Who?’s überhip Disco Label MIDNIGHT RIOT RECORDS from London. His releases often reach the Disco DownLoad Charts, he just reached No 1 in the Traxsource charts with “Secret Friend”. He has his own unique production style, which is always on the dubby side if things, but still very poppy and true to the original. A difficult balance, that he masters like not many others.  One of the reasons for this special sound might be the fact that he was born and raised in West Africa. Summoning the power of the most joy-filled sounds, Sophie’s affinity for disco, soul and house music has seen her play alongside the likes of Mark Ronson, Horse Meat Disco, Purple Disco Machine, Dimitri From Paris and Todd Terje, as well as being a frequent guest at Jade Jaggers’ legendary Jezebel parties. The original 7” release continues to sell out while the record opens the dance music world up at Sophie’s feet.
