The CMB is a snapshot of the oldest light in our Universe, imprinted on the sky when the Universe was just 380,000 years old. It shows tiny temperature fluctuations that correspond to regions of slightly different densities, representing the seeds of all future structure: the stars and galaxies of today. 

The glow is very nearly uniform in all directions, but the tiny residual variations show a very specific pattern, the same as that expected of a fairly uniformly distributed hot gas that has expanded to the current size of the universe. In particular, the spectral radiance at different angles of observation in the sky contains small anisotropies, or irregularities, which vary with the size of the region examined.

This is a kind of electronic harpsichord/clavichord performance of an original composition, a Bulgarian Kopanitsa dance. The dance is in a rapid 11/8 time signature.

ORIGINAL Citation (Oct 2014): Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) has uncovered a mysterious ‘song’ that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is singing into space. The comet seems to be emitting a ‘song’ in the form of oscillations in the magnetic field in the comet’s environment. It is being sung at 40-50 millihertz, far below human hearing, which typically picks up sound between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To make the music audible to the human ear, the frequencies have been increased in this recording. This is from a series of paintings I have completed that explores the notion of noise as colour. I complete the painted works and then processed an image of the canvas through the program Photosounder. I added a layer of sound, sampled from Max Ricther's version of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and processed it using AudioMulch. The layers of sound reflect the construction of the paintings. This electro acoustic version of the image is relection of my experimental sound works.
