“Hardbag, a style of music championed by Tony De Vit, Jon Of The Pleased Wimmin, Burger Queen, The Sharp Boys and many many others, was the antithesis of ‘handbag’ house which was popular in the cheesy clubs at the time. Super tough, super fun, largely queer-centric tongue in cheek music that was purely for the dancefloor and didn’t take itself too seriously all the while being absolutely mint (to me anyway). Hot Creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated House & Pressure from hot property Route 94. Echoing the excitement that surrounded his No.1 hit My Love, which shot him to stardom, the record has been in serious demand for months. Now finally ready for release he showcases his versatile skills as a producer over three heavy-weight tracks.

Rowan Jones aka Route 94 explains how he wanted to “put out three tracks that were diverse yet definitive.” Title track House & Pressure packs a real punch and contains the vocals from Joey Negro's classic Ride the Storm featuring Linda Clifford. The dominant female vocal on ‘House & Pressure’ combined with the force of the drum machines is a traditional element that people connect to the Route 94 productions. With ‘Crazy Bitch’ it’s a more of a big room sound, incorporating ghetto elements. ‘Dark Keyless’ is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose.

This year has seen a succession of big releases and remixes from Route 94 that cement his place amongst the dance music elite including the recent hit Mind, Body & Soul on Crosstown Rebels. The talented producer first saw fame reaching No.1 in the UK charts with My Love featuring Jess Glynne. Keen to remain on the underground scene, he followed with releases and remixes on Leftroom, Defected and Hot Creations. Overwhelming success followed as he performed at the likes of fabric, Sub Club, Space, Ushuaia, DC10 and many more. With a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, it’s clear this is only the start for the young artist.

Swedish producer Tiger Stripes, the alias of Mikael Nordgren, brings his techno touch to Hot Creations for his debut EP on the label this summer. Jack My Yum is a heavyweight three-parter that sees the Swede invite Hot Creations stable mate, Matt Tolfrey, to provide a stellar remix.

Opening track Jack My Yum is a warped and heavy roller with a smattering of dark vocals. Haunted brings with it a bass that you can feel reverberating off the concrete walls of a darkened club, interspersed with an eerie melody. Following his recent release Americas on the label, Leftroom Records boss Matt Tolfrey brings his groove and a bouncier bassline to proceedings with his version of the title track. Dunjacka completes the EP, with Nordgren sewing together a techno beat with broken vocal stabs, underpinned by a throbbing groove throughout.

Tiger Stripes has collaborated with legendary names such as Kerri Chandler, Adeva, Leroy Burgess, Riva Starr and Jerome Sydenham, with his brand of deep and futuristic techno seeing releases on some of the underground’s biggest imprints including Desolat, Drumcode and Cajual.

German duo Raumakustik are next up on Hot Creations with Animal / Waves, a stunning two track release that features a re-edit from label frontman Jamie Jones.

Animal starts proceedings, as a bouncing reverberating kick gives way to a synth-filled build up. An echoing vocal sample states “acid feel”, before hitting once again with a choppy, swinging bassline. Next up, Jamie Jones delivers a re-edit of Waves, featuring tinny hi-hats, hollow pops and a bouncing arcade build up that is guaranteed to cause a stir on any dancefloor.

Having released their Raider EP on sub-label Hot Trax and Dem A Pree on Emerald City, Raumakustik make their first appearance on Hot Creations. Respected producers in the house and techno scenes, they have also released on the likes of Suara, Toolroom and Microtonal Records. Jamie Jones is someone who needs little introduction. Founder of Hot Creations as well as the Paradise event series, there are few feats left for the Welshman to conquer. Countless esteemed releases coupled with a passion-lead vision have seen Jones become a true master of his craft.

The summer season might be all but over, but the good times keep on coming courtesy of this latest missile from Do Not Sleep by Luuk Van Dijk with a top remix from Ben Sterling.

Amsterdam based talent Van Dijk has had music in his bones since his youth and next to laying down sets at Paradise, Awakenings, elrow, Cocoon he has held a residency at Straf_Werk and released on taste making labels like Hot Creations, Solid Grooves, and Circus Recordings. He saves his best for Do Not Sleep however.

In the District is tight, tough, hard hitting house music with interwoven drums and bass that get right under your skin and make you move, while synths and percussion peel off the busy groove. Blunted then marries warped basslines and crisp claps with woodpecker hits. It is atmospheric, stripped back but effective house that makes an immediate mark. The remix of In the District by fast rising UK talent Ben Sterling is another brilliantly direct track with prying bass loops, freaky vocal echoes and a late night sense of mischief.

This is another vital offering from Do Not Sleep.
