The Hoboken, NJ hip-hop collective known as Down N' Dirty Tribe, producers of classic singles such as  "Inner Cypher", "Atrocities of a Thug" and "Trail of Tears", reunites to deliver "Tattooed Funk". "Tattooed Funk" represents DDT's 1st project together after a nearly 2 decade long hiatus as a group. This period wasn't spent idly as members worked incessantly on various projects with other local artists and cultivated a strong local following. 

     Serving as ambassadors for the pillars of hip hop, DDT stays true to the roots and doesn't go astray with "Tattooed Funk".  Songs like "Love True" and the aptly titled "Music" personifies hip hop and serves as an ode to the art form. Album cuts like "B4 its Gone", "Taking U High" and "Red Cups" showcases the group's range and distinguishes themselves from pigeon holed "trap" rappers dominating the genre today. 

      With aspects of funk permeating the album, listeners are treated to something that doesn't resemble today's simplified production. Beats that are influenced heavily by jazz, funk, house and other genres of "yore" but don't sound dated and serve rather as a bridge from yesteryear to present day.  Coming from an age that originality was not only respected but encouraged and "biting" was tantamount to stealing, DDT shows their ability to remain true to themselves, pay respect to those that paved the way and not conform when it became the "new norm". Down N Dirty Tribe succeeds in leaving listeners imprinted with a style that's entirely their own. In today's era of homogenous rap that's no small feat.
