Born in the dark streets of Cairo, grown to the unforgettable forests of Santa Esmeralda, spending its teen years in Bombay and Tangier markets, mature into the deep spacey Jungle of Ghana we proudly present you a new label from the land of the pyramids: SHANGO RECORDS invites you to an unheard world music psychedelic trip: like through a colorful kaleidoscope we will melt down Indian and Pakistani Vibes, Arab-Tek and Oriental groovy vibes, Afro-Beat rhythms n' pieces, Cumbia Tropicana flavors and cosmic Ghetto-Latin vibes into forbidden sounds of frenzied electronic dancefloor rituals. Outside traditional paths these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to Dionysian highs and places never been before.

The Huli are believed to have laid down roots in Papua New Guinea as far back as 45,000 years ago. Most of the Huli people are from the town of Tari, and many still live according to the traditional ways. “The Huli men are famous for their unique custom of creating and wearing impressive wigs decorated with feathers. They also wear bright facial paint in red, yellow and white — colors originally chosen to strike fear into their enemy in times of conflict. Nowadays, they usually wear them to sing and dance.”. The so-called Wigmen make their wigs out of their own hair and weave them with feathers from the island’s 700 bird species. Each feather carries its own symbolic meaning (such as strength and courage). “The forest in which we live is essential to us. It provides for all our needs, it is sacred, and I would do anything in my power to protect it,” writes Mundiya Kepanga, a 53-year-old Huli Wigman, “I hope that by helping people to better understand my culture, they will also respect our environment.”                                                                                                                    This is the new Shango Records compilation entitled “A Wigmen Town Called Tari”. Reversion (noun): the final, often mind-melting, product of a deft studio act in which an original recording’s elements are rephrased in a unique new way.

You know this. We know this. Monaberry knows this. They proved it last month with Super Flu’s agenda-setting ‘Re:Dings’ EP and they’ve done it again with this stunning reconstruction collection of andhim’s 2015 Monaberry smash ‘Rollercoaster’.

The evidence is clear from the off as ‘Mr Bass’ gets knighted to Sir Bass with two beautifully contrasting remixes. First up is groove-chowing Leeds lothario wAFF who fires up the energy to hip-shaking tech-level and gradually re-introduces the original’s cosmic elements as the groove charges into the vanishing point. La Fleur, meanwhile, adds a much more ominous fog-horn style bass texture that groans moodily before the majestic melody cuts through a Garnier-level arrangement twist. Stunning.

‘Cloys’ also enjoys two superb reworks: Re.You provides a touching twist by paying close attention and respect to the original’s swampy, underwater harmony with additional percussion, a richer weight and a more restrained sense of emotion. Ever one for contrast, Eagles & Butterflies flips the original into a brighter narrative direction with a timeless undulating groove and dizzying cannon of humanised textures. A true yin yang reversion scenario; one for opening, one for elevating.

It’s down to Zurich’s Animal Trainer to sign off this beautiful reversion experience with a bulbously rotund basslicked take on ‘Rollercoaster’. Upping the tempo and stripped back the layers, the duo create more space for the woozy vocal soul snippets and a whole new melodic layer.

Mind-melting, deft and rephrased with innovative articulation, andhim’s originals have been paid the utmost respect from five of this decade’s most exciting new house talents. Monaberry knows this, we know this… Now you do too.

Having previously featured on Eskimo Recordings' 2018 compilation 'The Purple Collection’ as one half of Languages, Franz Matthews returns to the label alongside fellow Berliners Local Suicide with the 'Meditation / Tutan Jamon', 2 tracks of heady disco that join the dots between the German capital and the sun soaked souks of North Africa.
 
Despite living on the same street for 4 years Franz Matthews and Brax Moody and Vamparela from Local Suicide only met recently through their common friend Sam Berdah (Days of Being Wild, Club Bizarre). Making up for lost time, the trio soon found themselves bonding in the studio, digging into their love of both the esoteric and travelling, and together channelled those passions into 2 spiritually infused numbers.
 
'Meditation'was the first result of this inspired partnership, appropriately recorded at the same time that Matthews was also recording music for a meditation app, and features a freeform stream of consciousness from Vamparela over a suitably hypnotic backing of wistful guitars and breezy rhythms. 'Tutan Jamon' meanwhile shares its DNA with recent Eskimo releases by the likes of Simple Symmetry and SHMLSS, the track built around a couple of very Egyptian influenced riffs and comes in two distinct versions.
 
Between his production studio MOWD, his duo Languages, and his solo electronic project, Franz Matthews keeps himself busy. Making Berlin his hometown for the past 5 years, the Franco-German producer and DJ has always kept one hand in the Indie Dance world, while the other wanders in more Psychedelic Pop realms, a winning combination that's seen him release music on imprints such as Eskimo Recordings, Days of Being Wild, Rockets & Ponies.
 
Local Suicide, aka DJs and producers Brax Moody and Vamparela, meanwhile have made a name for themselves putting on some of the most infamous underground parties Berlin has to offer, running their acclaimed blog and still finding time to make waves with their productions, a wild fusion of new wave, acid, slow techno and post-disco that has seen them work with the likes of Rodion, Mijo and Curses in recent years.
