Professor Kwame Phillips is an anthropologist and filmmaker, specializing in visual and sensory media production, ethnographic documentary and soundscapes. Born in London and raised in Jamaica, he joined John Cabot's Department of Communications in the Fall of 2016. Professor Phillips has traveled all over the world teaching digital storytelling in underserved communities. He works with Filmmakers Without Borders, an organization "committed to leveraging the filmmaking process as a vehicle for promoting student empowerment and cross-cultural exchange in the developing world."

Roberta Cleopatra Flack is an Aquarius from the Black South. North Carolina to be exact. Last month she announced her retirement from a 50 plus year career in music making, having been diagnosed with a rare (ALS) disease.

I refuse to let that announcement slip away into internet ether. That said, today I’m sharing the first of a two part series and tribute to her incomparable body of work. This is a thank you for the love, labor and legendary musicianship Roberta Flack offers..

For this episode I selected songs that speak to her range and that move me most, along with excerpts from interviews where she talks about her process in the 1970s. Link to the show in my bio.

Next month I’ll be joined by three Black women music scholars (@zfelice, @fredara @ebmoorhead ) who will further contextualize her legacy and talk about the songs that move them. That show will air on the Black Atlantic/Black Fantastic Sunday, January 8 @1btnradio fm! 11am (nyc) and 4pm (UK)…tune in.

In this episode, it is explored on "why" healing our earth-blood ancestors is key transformative work spiritually to break generational cycles of darkness, suffering, fears, phobias, trauma and grief, and to also see that connecting to the lands, to the waters, to the mountains, to the stars, to the moon, to the sun, to earth temples, to the caves, of Earth is equally ancestral healing work and celebration work. 

In this episode, we go in-depth of exploring how all things go together, how everything is connected, and how healing is the special key ingredient to Liberation, Sovereignty, Planetary Healing, Justice, Harmony and Society's Awakening.

Earth stewardship is ancestral medicine.

Ecology, environmentalism, saving marine life, healing coral reefs and protecting the trees from deforestation, saving animals from danger, giving our blood in ceremony back to the lands and flowers, clearing karmic vows of suffering, grounding into shadow work practices are all ancestral healing work and planetary awakening work. It is all One.
