Gospel Evensong at St Martin’s was jointly conceived with our endlessly creative hosts for the project, St Martin-in-the-Fields. The idea is simply to bring contemporary gospel music to the liturgy of Anglican Evensong. We sing the psalms, the heart of Evensong, using our “gospel psalm tones”. Otherwise the beautiful prayers of Mary and Simeon from Luke’s Gospel, the “Magnificat” and the “Nunc Dimittis”, as well as the traditional prayers and responses, have beautiful new settings by our band leader Peter Yarde Martin, and there is other seasonal music besides. All accompanied by our regular band.

We're a London-based gospel choir commited to bringing the beautiful and life-enhancing sound of gospel to new audiences.  We sing regularly in Anglican and Catholic churches as well as secular settings like The Jazz Cafe and the festivals Greenbelt and the Big Church Day Out.  We share our resources and have a 'toolkit' to enable other churches to explore gospel music and start their own choirs.
