Soul Harbor is a south Louisiana-based multi-instrumentalist family group consisting of twin brothers — Alan and Evan Chaney — and sister Savannah Frances. They are the adult children of veteran singer-songwriter and church musician Paul Chaney. Two other members, Tom Scott and Rich Frances (Savannah's husband), round out the group's roster.

Soul Harbor's music crosses genres, including worship, rock, soul, country, folk, and pop. All the songs on their eponymous inaugural project were written by Paul Chaney using lyrics filed away for years and now given a chance for expression by the young group using fresh, up-to-date styles. 

The group has been compared to CCM artists like We The Kingdom, Phil Wickham, Bethel Music, and CAIN. The songs are heartfelt and honest, intended to encourage, comfort, challenge, and call believers to a life of complete devotion to God. 

The group formed organically as a result of growing up in a musical family. Currently, they are part of the worship ministry at Our Savior's Church, a network of churches in south Louisiana. 

Soul Harbor's name conveys the message that a relationship with Jesus is a safe harbor for the soul—a place where one can find rest and peace.

Talk about a song with a story. Years ago, I was going through a very hard time. Things in my life weren't going well. Then, I heard a radio preacher quote Jesus' words, "It came to pass," to which the preacher added, "It didn't come to stay." From those four simple words, this song was born. ~ Paul Chaney

It Came To Pass

This song took its inspiration from the great hymn "Amazing Grace." The Bible says in Romans 5:20, "where sin abounds, grace does much more abound." Hence, I'm still amazed at his grace. ~ Paul Chaney

In Matthew 16:24, Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." That's the inspiration for this song. 

I Made Up My Mind

I wrote this song years ago for a new church plant, Fathwalk Church. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, "Walk by faith, not by sight." ~ Paul Chaney 

Walk by Faith

"Freedom" takes its lead from 2 Corinthians 5:17, which says, "If any man (person) is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things are passed away, and all things become new." 

It also takes inspiration from Paul and Silas in the jail in Acts 16:16-40. They were praising the Lord, and suddenly, an earthquake hit; their chains fell off, and they were free. 

The chorus comes from Roman 8, which says we have freedom in the Spirit and are no longer under the bondage of the law.

This is a very personal song for me. I wrote it during a time of repentance and coming back to the Lord. I hope it blesses you. ~ Paul Chaney

I Will Listen

I based this song on Joshua 24:15: "But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

May that be the heart of every Christian family. 

As For Me And My House

"So Far Away" is based on the Parable of the Lost Sheep, a parable told by Jesus in the Gospels of Matthew (18:12–14) and Luke (15:3–7). 

The parable is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of 99 sheep to search for one that has gone missing. Jesus uses this parable to show that God's Kingdom is accessible to everyone, including those who have strayed from God's path or are sinners. 

Jesus emphasizes that the shepherd is more joyful when he finds the lost sheep than he was about the 99 that didn't go astray, which is how God will feel when a sinner returns to Him. 



So Far Away

This song is based on several scriptures, but mostly 2 Corinthians 3:18: "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."

Its message is that we see ourselves in one way (as imperfect, flawed, sinful), and God sees us another way (righteous). 

Becoming What We Are

This song is based on Hebrews 10:23, which says, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful." 

King of Love

A song inspired by Philippians 3:14: "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
