Gigi Masin has had a long career writing and producing some of the loveliest, warmest, most delicate music.

Over the past ten years he has received critical acclaim and praise for a number of albums and projects which have seen him collaborate with a wide variety of labels and musicians.

From Ambient material, through to works which are at times more Psychedelic or Balearic influenced – his music has been released on the likes of Apollo, Music From Memory, Hell Yeah Recordings, Melody as Truth and many more.

He has also worked on a number of collaborative projects with the likes of Tempelhof, Jonny Nash, Young Marco and Alessandro Monti. These are but to name a few.

His latest release is a collaborative album with Greg Foat, a record on Strut which weaves its way between a number of styles and genres with intricate precision.

Given Gigi has such a lengthy and prolific career in music we felt it apt to invite him to record a mixtape which showcases some of his musical interests and passions. Whilst not a DJ, he has a broad, far reaching taste which this mixtape demonstrates.

Gigi Masin: The 'Monday Is Okay' Mix

Purelink have emerged as underdogs of the Ambient and Downtempo scenes – the past couple of years has seen the group release a number of records which showcases a deep sense of understanding and ambition toward a genre which is often misunderstood and misheard.

Tommy Paslaski (aka Concave Reflection), Ben Paulson (aka Kindtree) and Akeem Asani (aka Millia) have been releasing music as Purelink – broadening the narrative around their sound as they weave intricate layers, samples and melodies together to create a new age world of their own making.

Their music is atmospheric and rooted in moments of personal reflection and self awareness. They rework material and samples to create something else entirely and the music itself is as much a soundscape or a backdrop to the world of the listener.

Recent releases have come on Peak Oil, UwU dust bath, Naff and Lillerne Tape Club.

Mogwaa is a Seoul-based DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist who can seemingly do no wrong. Since his debut EP in 2017, he's developed a stellar track record of releases and live performances that have made him an in-demand name across East Asia and beyond. And he's only just getting started.

The South Korean artist's multi-genre palette and hardware expertise have earned him the description of boy wonder from peers and collaborators. His work is awash in bright textures and dreamy moods, whether it's electro-fused techno for Peggy Gou's Gudu Records, limber jungle for Klasse Wrecks or dubby dancehall for Sound Metaphors. At Wonderfruit festival in December, he played a thrilling live set of spacey techno and loopy acid, infusing rich sound design into elastic groove. His stamina and enjoyment of music is tangible—he could probably play all night long and still be raring to go.

After learning classical piano, guitar and trumpet in his early years, he taught himself to compose and produce. He's now determined to work with South Korean producers through Walls And Pals, a label he runs alongside Jesse You.

Mogwaa's RA Podcast offers a glimpse into his multi-faceted sound. It's full of club-ready heaters, from trippy house to breakbeats, that pack a serious punch.

Back with our occasional Mix series and this time we feature the excellent sister duo based in New York the Analog Soul , whom we had the pleasure of sharing the decks with back in December 2016 when we all played for Discwoman .
Born in the SF Bay area to a writer mother and sculptor father, their childhood was marked by an avid appreciation and promotion of the arts and culture. At a young age Jacquelyn would soon discover her talent as a dancer while Kat pursued the fine arts through painting and drawing. Music however, would prove to be their destined paths. As 80's kids, part of the first generation of MTV, the sister's found themselves glued to the tube, mesmerized by the sounds of new wave and post punk, early hip hop, classic soul/r&b and pop, and developed a keen interest in jazz, fostered by their father's love of legends such as Chick Corea, Thelonius Monk, Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis, to name a few, while artists like Herbie Hancock, Paul Hardcastle and Kraftwerk would later influence their introduction to electronic music. Fast forward to the late 90s. Parties at SF’s Sound Factory, 1015, the EndUp and introduced the duo to nightlife, electronic music and DJ culture.
An acceptance to the famed Alvin Ailey School in 2001 would see Jacquelyn off to New York. After shopping weekly at the legendary DanceTracks record store, she landed a job there, eventually becoming shop manager and music buyer. DatKat moved to NYC a year later and began quietly honing her skills. In 2004 the ladies secured a weekly radio spot on the famed eastvillageradio.com and the Analog Soul show was born. The long- running show aired every Monday night from 10pm-12amand explored what they deemed "the deeper, darker side of techno and house"--but it also showcased the full spectrum of electronic music, from minimal, acid, Detroit techno, electro, dub, dubstep, and d&b to trip hop and other forms, with special guests ranging from Function to Simbad, Roland Appel, Slam Mode, and Dj Qu. While the overall sound was largely dance-based, the show was aimed at promoting quality underground music and artists, and to expose some otherwise “genre-biased” listeners to a wider range of electronica. Although it ended in 2009, the twins would continue to play regularly at various venues in the city, such as APT, Love, and Stay.
DatKat played Montreal’s Academy Club and more international gigs would soon follow, with headlining stints in Kiev, Ukraine at Xlib Club and Sky Art Cafe and Moscow’s legendary Propaganda Club for Nina Kraviz's “Voices” party alongside resident Vakula. In early 2011, Kat formed a collective called RADIO with close friend Lenny Posso (label boss of Chronicles and Thema Records) and A.Arias, a record collector and NYC promoter (Strobelight Network), and began throwing warehouse parties tailored to bringing the real underground back to NYC, booking the likes of Terrence Dixon, Oliver Ho, Christian Rau, Small People, and Trus'me among others.
As Analog Soul, they play regularly as residents of Brooklyn's Bossa Nova Civic Club as well as Lebain, Output, Goodroom and many of the top underground events in Brooklyn. They played the inaugural edition of Sustain Release (2014), Resident Advisors in residence series with Mood 2 Swing in 2016, Mysteryland 2016 with Art Department, Omar S and Derrick Carter, and a New York edition of Boiler Room with Anthony Parasole, A.Arias and Volvox, to name a few. Through their partnership with Baltimore veteran Donny Burlin, they've promoted and curated many events under Space is the Place, a mythical, legendary DIY artist wharehouse, which has hosted the likes of Mike Huckaby, Theo Parrish, DJ
Bone, DJ Spinna, Chez Damier, Kai Alce, Mood 2 Swing, Stingray, Sublimate, Mutual Dreaming and many more.

...the bankruptcy in the chain early in the year coincided with the downgrading of the Dillard's at the mall to a clearance store (next step closing).  Even before this happened, the mall was suffering from vacancies and was already pretty much dying.  In fact, there was already talk that the mall was going under before any department stores closed.  

The lack of retail expansion around it suggested that it wasn't doing so well early on.  No struggling mall could have ever had a worse turn of events than losing two major anchors in a short time with the third nearly closing by downgrading to a clearance store...
