"Was lange währt, wird gut" könnte man als Quintessenz dieses Mixes sehen. Wobei es hier ja eigentlich heißen müßte "Was lange währt, wird ausgezeichnet", denn Maltin Worf steht als Dresdner Homie schon seit Beginn unseres Podcasts auf der Want-List.
Seit sich unsere Wege das erste mal zu später Stunde am Tresen des Bon Voyage kreuzten, müssen inzwischen etwa zehn Jahre vergangen sein. Seitdem hat Maltin eine amtliche Entwicklung hingelegt, wobei schon damals offensichtlich war, dass er eine Extra-Portion Talent am Start hat. Gewinner des Laptop Battle Dresden 2014 und Artist in Focus beim 2015er DAVE Festival wird man nicht durch Zufall. Waren damals noch seine HipHop-Roots und Einflüsse von Madlib oder J Dilla dominant, so hat sich sein Sound mit den Jahren vor allem Richtung Footwork und Jungle verschoben, wodurch er zum perfekten Künstler für das Leipziger 160BPM-Label Defrostatica Records wurde. 2018 erschien dort sein erster Beitrag auf der Compilation "Future Sound of Leipzig" und in den Folgejahren die EPs "City of Meth" I und II, sowie "4AM". Samt Remixen von u.a. D'nB Urgestein Digital und einer Collabo mit Rider Shafique, womit Maltin Worf spätestens jetzt auch international Gehör finden dürfte.

Wir freuen uns wie Bolle, dass es endlich geklappt hat und wir nicht nur jeden Monat das von ihm produzierte Intro für den Infinite Sequence Podcast hören dürfen, sondern ihn endlich auch mit einem eigenen Mix am Start haben. Big up, Bro!

3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

I thought I’d make a mix in the currently popular yet controversial 140-160bpm range, as there’s some amazing music in this space between techno and jungle that doesn’t revolve around straight kicks, and I think it deserves more attention.

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Throughout the years.. well apart from this guy Martyn I’d have to say Andi Baumecker. I don’t know many DJs with such a depth of knowledge across so many genres. His passion for music is relentless and continuously inspiring.

Recently I’ve been really into Polygonia. Brilliant producer and DJ from Munich creating ethereal worlds through sound so convincing you can almost step into them. I went to see her open Berghain last September and it was incredible, like being in a rainforest on acid. 

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

There’s a new EP coming this summer which will be announced soon, and a few remixes before that, for Jakojako and Hercules & Love Affair (with Mr Baumecker). Otherwise, I’m having fun developing a new live set involving MIDI controlled lights, which I premiered at Superbooth last week.

Forest  Drive  West's  productions  have  always  been  essays  on  the  balance  of  groove  and  complexity,  and  the  balance  between  airy  fluidity  and  cavernous  weight,  but  these  five  tracks  here  are  the  mature  work  of  a  producer  who  is  a  master  of  the  tonal  vocabulary  of  soundsystem  music.

Since the age of 4, he has always been involved in music in some way. From playing the violin and flute for orchestras, getting excited by putting on his uncles Marvin Gaye records, recording raps with his cousin on a Fischer Price "My First Stereo" to producing his first beats on the Playstation at 15. By the age of 19, he knew that creating music was the only thing he really wanted to do in life, and made it his lifes' purpose to master his craft and gain as much knowledge about music as his brain could handle, then squeezing in more....
