J Dilla is one of, if not, the greatest Hip Hop producer/s of all time. He was a massively influential artist who sadly passed away aged 32 in 2006 after a long battle with Lupus. Jay Dee's ability to create intricate and timeless beats and melodies/use samples in such a simplistic yet complex way separated him from the rest.

Over the years there have been a handful of artists/DJs that I have always wanted to come on the show. We've had Dam Funk, Mr. Choc, Daddy Kev, Hazel, Rhettmatic, Ta-ku, Coleman, Iman Omari, and many others as special guests but i've always wanted to have J. Rocc of the legendary Beat Junkies/Stones Throw crew on the show. Well, our timing finally aligned and he came through the Soulection HQ to drop a set and sit down with me for an interview. He dropped a 60 min set full of future beats, bass, and some other left-field shit. 

After that we sat down and chopped it about so many interesting things from his love for digging for 45's (Gospel Music), his production (that he keeps low key), his DILLA/MADLIB stories, and much more. J. Rocc is an overall tastemaker and one of the best on the decks. If you ever have a chance to see him live please go to a show and see for yourselves.

As they prepare to release the project on 7" for the first time, we're extremely honoured to get our hands on a never-before-heard mixtape by the master himself. Soulection Radio Show #312 ft. Beat Junkies (Rhettmatic, Mr. Choc & J. Rocc)

This month Carhartt WIP Radio features a musical journey by producer, DJ and Akashik Records co-founder Ringgo Ancheta, aka Mndsgn. Raised with Gospel music at church and B-Boy culture at home in south New Jersey, he began experimenting with beat making when he was 14, before befriending fellow producer Knxwledge. The two would eventually go on to form the influential Klipmode collective.

After moving to Los Angeles, Mndsgn's music flourished, catching the attention of labels such Stones Throw and Leaving Records, who put out his albums Yawn Zen, Surface Outtakes and Body Wash. His latest project is titled Snax – a mixtape brimming with esoteric hip hop flavours and freshly cut Mndsgn remixes, and one which also serves as the debut release for his brand new label Ringgo.

About to embark upon a European tour – presented by Carhartt WIP – which will take him to Lisbon, Madrid, Cologne, Berlin, London, The Hague and Milan, we asked him to prepare a show that focuses on the releases of Akashik Records, the little DIY label he has run with his buddies Alima and Shane Sakanoi since 2015. The result is a unique, nonchalant mix of twisted contemporary electronics, driving funk, hot soul, agitating hip hop, and silky R&B.
