Our fourth installation of Soulestial Sound Sessions - SSS004 - featuring Aiko, is a mind-melding interstitial stretch through time and space thanks to the cosmic connections of our Soulestial family. From the first beat, Aiko already has her hands deep in the cosmos as an omnipotent orchestrator, sending us off into space like some galaxy-hoppin psychonauts on an intergalactic walkabout. One minute we're grooving along with a veritable level of mischievous derivations and the next we're crash landing into the next planet's solar system. It's as if aliens uplifted the outback's biggest baddest doof doof and sent it into hyperspace. Kinetic yet controlled, Aiko lands this interdimensional spaceship with flare, crisscrossing genres, sounds, and feels across the astral planes of sonic existence. And just when you think she might take you into another blackhole boogie in the darkest corner of the multiverse, she closes it out with class like a true space cadet, the whole journey wrapped in celestially tufted astral pillows, reverberating expertly through the aether. In the end, she delicately fades the controlled chaos into oblivion, with a string of piano keys burning like sky lanterns blazing across the sky in a symphony of solar flares as far as the eyes can see.

Aiko blends mood with movement in her curated mixes of ethereal melodies and playful rhythms. Her music creates a story filled with exciting drops and thoughtful pauses that take you on a sonic ride through your own musical heartscape. She discovered her love for electronic music on the desert playa shortly after moving to San Francisco in 2012. Aiko has now brought her dusty heart back to sunny Los Angeles, where she co-organizes Afternoon Tea - a tea time dance party centered around love, expression, and communi-tea.

Soulestial Carnival is blessed to have a home at YOUniversal at Burning Man and in 2021 we brought our mini-Burn to Cielos for a weekend of community, excellent food, and vibey music. 

"YOUniversal offers desert-friendly drinks along with exotic sweets and sour treats, some parlor games, and poetry & fortune telling - all based on Persian culture. Since our camp consists heavily of veteran Burners of Persian descent, YOUniversal is really good at two things that can be helpful on the playa: hospitality and fun desert-dwelling wisdom."

LA-based (by way of Michigan) DJ and producer Dan Burton, PANDA PR1ME, has been throwing down extended sets for nearly as long as he's been DJ'ing. Panda cut his teeth by DJ'ing at his and his friends' parties, often with sets lasting nearly 10 hours. This epic journey from a trippy deep tech mind-bending experience after sundown straight through to soaring and uplifting sunrise sets has solidified his eclectic diversity. His inherent skill in track selection might only be matched by his ability to steer a party in the direction of his choosing. From deep house, deep tech, tech house, techno, dub, to chillout, Panda is well-versed in it all.

To say that we are honored to have hosted Patrik Khach at our first annual Soulestial Carnival festival is an understatement. We have looked up to the SBCLTR giant and collective manifester for years and having him co-create with us at the magic hour in the morning at our Soulestial Stage was a dream come true. The man's ability to throw a party can't be contested, but what we've always truly appreciated about him is his incredibly-choice track selection in his sets, regardless of the time. Our resident Gonzo writer and co-founder Joe Giuliano actually wrote about him years ago when he drove the Favela Stage at Lightning in a Bottle into a literal frenzy with his perfectly orchestrated set. This set was no different. Give it a spin and (re-)experience what we will never forget!

Soulestial Sound Sessions - SSS005 - RAHA

Like the calm before the storm that rolls in over the desert horizon, the simultaneous simplicity & complexity of Raha's deft delivery exudes the true maximization of Minimal itself. But don't let that seemingly diminutive description of his undeniable gift or the unnecessary trip down the endless rabbit hole of subgenres be mistaken for less than anything but well deserved appreciation. The number of artists that live artistically more often than they self-proclaim themselves to create art is few and far between, yet here we find ourselves gifted with the sonic representation of exactly that.  

The French composter Debussy famously said that music is the space between the notes, but I'd add that art is the space between breaths. By all accounts, Raha seems to have an advanced education in art history, philosophy, and music theory. It doesn't hurt that the Persian word for thank you is taken identically from the French "merci". The French and the Persians know a thing or two about music and mood. And Raha, with all of his enigmatic qualities, seems to also blur the lines between reality and fantasy. When he is in his true state of musical experimentation, little else matters. There is an undeniable freedom in finding yourself in that space between. 

While short and sweet in duration, these 64 minutes represent timeless chilled out melodies that make the mirage materialize with a soft subtlety reserved for those that never doubted their existence. It takes a certain belief in the surreal to summon greatness in a time void of kings or gods and yet Raha expertly does exactly this. Far out on the perimeter, the truth makes itself real. If you go far enough, there are no stars. There is just endless nothing. The maximal minimal. And there isn't much realer than the feeling we get from this pure creativity realized.

Tehran-born Raha Sarab was a multi-instrumentalist from a young age, already playing the piano, flute, and electric guitar. He later began DJing and incorporating his love for live instruments with the love he had for DJing. Raha then began to produce electronic music and broke barriers by doing live performances in front of Iranian audiences which was never heard of in a country where Western Music was forbidden. 

Raha went on to found SARAB BAND - an electro-ambient instrumental group that used an eclectic assortment of instruments inspired form Asian & Persian culture - which performed the first ever electronic concert in Iran’s history. 

Today, Raha is exploring music and following his creativity overseas. He has traveled as far and wide as Malaysia, India, Turkey, Dubai, and now the United States where he continue to explore the intersection of world live instrumentation and his electronic productions.

We were blessed to meet this humble soul, Arash aka ARANAVA, at one of our Soulestial beach parties this Summer. We were drawn to his incredible energy and vibes before we even knew he was a DJ and Producer. Later that night, he blew us away with an incredible set. 

A couple weeks later, it was an easy choice to have him headline our co-founder Alejandro Luna's birthday party at the Airliner. He matched Luna's high energy ethereal bounce with his own unique style and left us wanting more. Expect more collaborations with this incredible soul soon!

ARANAVA - Soulestial Airliner Residency - August 18, 2022

While this year's Burn was a relentless and unforgiving one, as expected, there were a few divine moments of truth worthy of bearing the Soulestial standards for serendipitous spontaneity that we always seek to find. One of the greatest experiences for us this year, was in the almost instant integration of our new friend from across the pond, Greg Pidcock, into our collective family. The man is a workhorse, a comedian, a gentleman, and an artist - all helically wrapped up into one well packaged gem of a human being. 

If we had known Greg prior to arrival, he would've already been on our big Wednesday night lineup. But instead, thankfully, like the Burn often does, it gifted us a circumstance where he could play with the crew on another day. Shamiran graciously gifted her time slot at the Soulestial Takeover of the Bubble Lounge to Greg and magic was instantly made! 

With the end of the dragon tail in sight already on Saturday afternoon, it was a playa blessing to descend upon our friends' camp with Greg in tow. His booty-shaking housified set united two camps worth of people and served as a beacon for passers-by mid-dust storm to join the perfectly planned chaos within the Bubble Lounge tent. Thank you Greg! We can't wait to do it again, brother!

For a mid-week Burn day plagued by power and sound issues, interpersonal challenges, heat exhaustion, and countless other hiccups, this vibey organic set by our brother i.am.nãda was a melodic close to what turned out to be a beautiful evening. While he played, our brothers and sisters at YOUniversal managed to serve bountiful plates of Persian dinner in the middle of the unforgiving desert to hundreds of hungry Burners, many of whom waited for over an hour in a line wrapped around the bend, 3 camps deep. The outright gratitude in service of Persian culture and YOUniversal in particular can be felt long after you've been graced by their presence... 

...and thanks to a gracious introduction to our celestial brother Nãda by our sister Gilda last year at our mini-Burn at Cielos, we have been lucky to have this genuine soul as part of our extended family. He loves as if it's second nature with an almost innate ability to give more than he receives. But receive we did, with this nearly-2 hour set of uplifting world beats, serenading us under the vast starlit sky. To witness Nãda's seemingly effortless delivery is to experience an alchemy of frequencies, a magnificent merging of analog and digital existences that create a unique soundscape that fits perfectly amidst the cultural landscape of YOUniversal.

Let's not forget our brother Dead-Tones, who originally did one of our first Soulestial Sound Sessions, taking a chance on us as we grew into our current form. His set at our first festival was on one of the best of the weekend, so we're stoked to share it with you here!

Born and raised by a Lebanese/French family on the African continent in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, reggae is the genre that first spoke to Kemel Omais the most - for its simplicity and efficiency, but most importantly the message. Years later after feeling the harmonious connections in spite of worldly differences at a Sasha show in Beirut, Kemel decided to learn beat-matching and DJ'ing. A couple months later Dead-Tones was born along with a monthly podcast series "EARGASM". After winning a DJ competition to spin at "Marvellous Island Paris," Kemel moved to Los Angeles to start studying music production, sound design, mixing, and mastering. He has acquired some unique sound design abilities from two of the best music schools in LA - Dubspot & Point Blank - and even landed a residency at Guy Gerber's Rumors Ibiza. Kemel's music takes you on a soul moving journey through deep, dark, melodic, and tribal sounds. His production includes a variety of heavy synth progressions and dark driven bass lines with a heavy touch of melancholy.

We've known Steve for awhile, quietly digging his epicly long sets when he played with our homies with In This Together into the early morning at countless parties. We've been a fan of his Twitch series for almost as long as well. It was only due time before we asked him to play for us and start sharing his time between ITT and SC. We're excited for what our collective future holds! 

Besides a slight glitch at about 8 minutes in due to us loading in lights late right behind him while he DJ'd (sorry Steve!), this set was a perfect kickoff to our Holiday party and closing night of our Airliner Residency. We've had this on repeat since December!

Stevage is a Los Angeles-based DJ with a passion for driving deep/afro house. His musical journey began at an early age, gaining foundations in music theory while learning to play piano and alto saxophone. Later, he was inspired by DJ Qbert and the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, a group of Filipino-American turntablists, and their eccentric style for using turntables as instruments.

Soon after that, he began DJing various local gigs in his hometown, San Diego, falling in love with the art of sharing music. Seeking independence, he moved to Los Angeles where he was self-employed throughout college: computer engineer by day, DJ-for-hire by night.

A sojourn to Burning Man: Rites of Passage in 2011 is where his first exposure to the warm inclusivity and thriving community of the international house scene sparked what drives the evolution of his musical style today. He continues to bring his unique style to life through his love for old school influences and rhythmic afro house.

We moved our monthly residency to Pattern Bar in January 2023 and to kick off the series, our stage was graced by a pair of our Wulfpack brothers in epic fashion.

Aaron Jacobs has been a friend and co-collaborator for some time now, so it only made sense to have him close out our inaugural Pattern Bar Residency night. 

Aaron has a gift in an almost innate ability to gather the masses and set the dancefloor on fire. Maybe it's his years of dedication to his craft, maybe it's his killer hairdo, but more likely it's a combination of the two. We'll be keeping this one on repeat!

Just days after playing the legendary Robot Heart bus, our campmate Baham delivered an expertly-crafted set, perfect for the intimate setting of the tea house. 

Baham is a multimedia project lead by the Montreal-based duo The Doctors, bringing together elements of folk music reinterpreted through electronica. With influence drawn globally, they aim to preserve the spirits in the beat of electronic music, melding the two into a mystical expression of worldly cultures and enchanting beats.

When we were compelled to start our monthly mix series, our obvious first choice was our Wülfpack soul sister Crescendoll. The hellfire queen of gutter techno consistently delivers hard-hitting music that resurrects anything dead within miles, but even we couldn't have predicted this glorious sonic journey through the nether realms of sound. While the darkside duchess of degenerates always throws it down hard enough to make the devil himself tremble, she also knows when to strategically layer in that special bounce that shifts the death quivers to booty shakes. This hellacious set and its delicious deviations is what you get when you cross a demonic dancefloor exorcism with a dystopian murder mystery - something that can only be birthed from the mind of Crescendoll. And like any good heady Odyssean journey, the profundity isn't truly realized until the end. Or is it only the beginning? The confusion belongs to the realization that this musical medusa is Ouroboros reimagined ad infinitum...

The name “Crescendoll” means more than what it seems on the surface - it describes a charming music maker, a musical conduit comprehensively educated in music and technical production, and stylistically influenced by a wide array of dark and melodic electronic sounds. Crescendoll is a lead and producer with local LA music label Wülfpack, among whom her talents and efforts shine the brightest. No matter the destination, she brings her unique blend of techno to the table with her signature grimey darkness, deep desert minimal, growling gutter grooves, and psychedelic progressions. These elements make up that special Crescendoll sound that immerses you completely in spellbinding eerie melodies and charging rhythms - a unique blend of sonic voodoo that will undoubtedly take you on a resonant musical journey like no other.

SSS001. Crescendoll - Soulestial Sound Sessions

While everything may now seem digitized, life breaks down to the analog connections... Much like brothers from opposite sides of the planet connecting musically in ways we never could've preconceived. As such, our second release is very special to us. SSS002 features Producer Dead-Tones at his finest; that is Kemel Omais, serving as the pilot of this soulful journey through sound. What starts light and fluttery - a beginning that exemplifies the cross-pollination of styles he has choicely honed from Abidjan to Paris to Beirut to LA - becomes a voyage that is but a dream, seemingly traveling through memory. Building layers upon layers, like musical destinations criss-crossing a map, this offering owes itself to a life-long collection of culture and experience. Of Possibility, perhaps. The Here and Now. And with a sleight of hand, our breath is a capsule in time capturing this contrast - the inspired spiritual dance beneath the stars. There is a beauty oft missed by our constant drive that Dead-Tones seems to recapture in these moments of transmuted, transformed, inebriated, recalcitrance. This siren song starts as an epic tale unraveling like the tattered pages of the Iliad and ends as ceremonial bones divining us as inquisitors responsible for our own mysterious futures. The possibilities are endless and beautiful when music is allowed to rip apart the fabric of existence - one to which we think we're stitched, when in fact we are the stars that illuminate the board, each of us more intimately connected than we can ever know. Born and raised by a Lebanese/French family on the African continent in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, reggae is the genre that first spoke to Kemel Omais the most - for its simplicity and efficiency, but most importantly the message. Years later after feeling the harmonious connections in spite of worldly differences at a Sasha show in Beirut, Kemel decided to learn beat-matching and DJ'ing. A couple months later Dead-Tones was born along with a monthly podcast series "EARGASM". After winning a DJ competition to spin at "Marvellous Island Paris," Kemel moved to Los Angeles to start studying music production, sound design, mixing, and mastering. He has acquired some unique sound design abilities from two of the best music schools in LA - Dubspot & Point Blank - and even landed a residency at Guy Gerber's Rumors Ibiza. Kemel's music takes you on a soul moving journey through deep, dark, melodic, and tribal sounds. His production includes a variety of heavy synth progressions and dark driven bass lines with a heavy touch of melancholy.

Being a studio-head and analog collector, Dead-Tones has been able to release tracks and EPs on top labels such as Kindisch and All Day I Dream. His latest EP "Delusions of Grandeur" is out now on Bar 25 Music, featuring seven outstanding exclusive songs, perfect for a journey through the different shades of melodic techno & house music. The EP also features remixes by Rafael Cerato, Den Ishu, and Marco Tegui providing their own diverse atmospheric take on Dead-Tones' originals.

SSS002. Dead-Tones - Soulestial Sound Sessions

Our third installation - SSS003 - features producer-DJ duo Baham with a special appearance by Gab Rhome, in all of its expected glory. It was only a matter of time before we highlighted our Persian brothers Baham - traditional musical mystics reincarnated as mythical merrymakers, true to form. The divine center of music, art, and culture from old Persia has been reinterpreted through a pair of eclectic doctors that seem to be ordained in the ornate order of otherworldliness as much as they are decorated with doctorates.

Baham is 'together' inasmuch as it is 'collective' - here, these two clerical conduits have honed a collection of sounds and inspirations that paint the world over. This inclusivity is the key to their kingdom and maybe even, their divinity. Music knows no borders and these men know no bounds. The mix brings everything together masterfully like a Who's Who dinner party that includes everybody that matters despite their often misinterpreted history. Perhaps music may bring peace where so many other art forms have failed. This, my friends, is what I imagine Baham hopes for us all...

...And as a special amuse-bouche bonus, Baham's Canadian counterpart and friend Gab Rhome joins in for a B2B to round out this spicy dish of a mix with all of the accouterments for which Gab is so well known. A master chef of delectable dreamy deep house, his music is a deep dive into the golden age where life imitated art and not the other way around. Whether he sways more Victorian muse than enthusiastic savant is up for question, but one thing we can count on is an always-adventurous soiree through the coolest of catacombs, replete with sonic faire and resplendent delivery. If Baham is the family-style meal bringing us together, Gab Rhome is the sweetest of desserts to seal the deal. I already want another round, but for now, it's time for a smoke and some Zzz's.

Baham aims to preserve these spirits in the beat of electronic music, melding the two into a mystical expression of worldly cultures and enchanting beats. Baham - literally meaning "together" in Persian - is the creation of a shared experience, a musical partnership between friends, an artistic expression of a collective. A multimedia project led by the Montreal-based The Doctors, the duo of Houman Farzin & Kam Kafi bring together elements of folk music reinterpreted through electronica. Their ‘You Are Simin’ EP for Blond:ish’s ABRACADABRA will tickle your technicolour senses, with an added remix bonus from Gab Rhome & Adisyn. “We found this amazing track on an old Persian western record, and the main verse says 'You are the one,' and we thought how poetic to use that as our first release. It was like it chose us or itself for this - a glimpse into a foreign world, where here we are offering everyone a glimpse into our culture in a playful manner. Our good friend, Ali Sabet, then gave us one of his script drawings with a focal female character after hearing our track, and she became the one."

Gab Rhome has an innate sense of rhythm, emotion, and groove. Both as a producer and DJ, the Montreal artist sparks an unavoidable connection with the soul, while conveying exceptional personal style and a sense of fun. Gab’s career has taken off, with releases on All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Last Night On Earth, Kindisch and more. Rhome is selective in researching his music, which is percussion-centric, dreamy deep house, often with an African, Cuban or Brazilian influence, and always with a hook to snare the listener. His eclectic musical background echoes the dual culture of being French-Canadian. His sensual approach to life and music includes all the arts – literature and poetry, textiles and fashion, visual art especially surrealism and impressionism, and cooking, for which he sources spices and flavourings on his DJ travels.
