Interview with Dirty Chocolate

1. Upon Your recent 93 EP release, how long did it take you for the process of creating the EP.?

A couple of months, most of it spent choosing what 3 songs to put out as the 93 EP. It was a tough decision, changed my mind more times than I can count. I am happy with the outcome. 

2. Your EP Tracks seems to have quite unique names for their Titles, is there any story behind how you end up with their names epically ‘Emoji girl’.

That track I actually made and named a year ago. I honestly just go with what comes to my mind when I name songs. I feel like that way it feels more natural. 

3.	How has being part of collectives like @MovingCastle, @wearealaya, @ethereallabel had an influence on your life as a producer ?

Being a part of Moving Castle has helped me immensely. It is really important to surround yourself with people that share the same motivation as you. I have learned and grown so much in the period of time spent with Moving Castle. Alaya and Ethereallabel? have also helped me in many ways. Much love to all of them. 

4. From your name we can tell you are a chocolate fan. What is your top 3 chocolate you would recommend to anyone?

Haha, going to go by brands. Hershey’s, Godiva and Ferrero Rocher if you’re about that life. 

5. When you are not making some dope Music. What do you do to chill?

That’s a pretty long list, but my favourite activities include, drawing, watching anime, and playing my 3ds. 

6.	How did you come to be part of the anonymous Josh Pan and also how do you feel about your upcoming performing at Noh Life Club Night 06 “Tons of friends” show with other amazing producers like strewlow , IanEwing , Dehku .

Josh Pan really just consists of people I talk to almost every day, so it happened super organically. I am super excited to meet and perform with all those guys. Gonna be my first time meeting strehlow even if we are in the same collective haha.

Show 196 features 2 of Detroit's finest, the one any only, Illa J x Frank Nitt aka Yancey Boys!  It was truly a pleasure sitting down with these cats and chopping it up on all things music.  10 years went by in a flash and it was then he released his debut album, The Yancey Boys and album comprised of all Dilla's beats which were released from the archives of Delicious Vinyl.  Over that 10 year period, Illa has dropped his sophomore album, Illa J, Sunset Blvd. with Frank as Yancey Boys and his 3rd solo installment, Home produced by Calvin Valentine.   Illa J also gave us a nice break down on his progression of his duel threat skill set in singing & rapping.   The two also revealed an extensive tour schedule which features them traveling for over a month across Europe.  We hope you enjoy this one!

Balancing his time between working as a touring drummer & creating his own music at home in Brooklyn, Steve Bryant, p/k/a Cru the Dynamic, draws influence from a wide range of musical settings. His experience behind the kit influences his production style as much as his live playing is informed by the electronically produced beats of hip-hop, drum n’ bass, trap and footwork.

Bryant follows up 2017’s The Quick EP, with Cuts, his first full length album on Detroit’s YHS Records. Cuts, drawing its name from the micro-sliced samples peppered throughout many of the tracks, blends the skittering rhythms of footwork with the head-nod inducing half-time pulse of hip-hop. Digital and analogue intersect in this body of work from an artist who has his feet firmly planted in both worlds.

Throughout the 37-minute journey, club-ready bangers like “Passive Fist” and “Now Put ‘em Out” are nestled between epic compositions such as “Safe Party” and “Drunk Duke”, while low-key coolers “Learnin & Earnin” and “T Daze” provide breathers from the breakneck pace of this album. Strap in, “Cuts” is both a euphoric and dizzying ride.
