In Lebanon, new public art has emerged from the current economic and political crisis. The street art movement has been using graffiti, paintings and murals as a powerful voice against corruption, inequality, high unemployment and increasing poverty. In this piece I speak to the co-founder of Art of Change, an organisation at the forefront of the movement, as well as two artists from Beirut.

I had the pleasure to meet Star Feminine Band at Les Rencontres Trans Musicales festival and attend their first international performance. 

These fierce young women from Benin are crossing linguistic and stylistic borders by singing feminist messages in Peul, Ditammari, Bariba, Fon and French, and taking in a joyful mix of Waama rhythms, Congolese rumba, sato, highlife and Sierra Leonean bubu.

They totally owned the room! 2,000+ people captivated by their energy and empowering lyrics, demanding gender equality, women’s rights and school for girls in their home country, the African continent and around the world. Truly a force to be reckoned with.

For people not afraid to discover a real place with real people, Marseille is the place. From colourful markets (like Noailles market) that will make you feel like you are in Africa, to the Calanques (a natural area of big cliffs falling into the sea - Calanque means fjord), from the Panier area (the oldest place of the town and historically the place where newcomers installed) to the Vieux-Port (old harbor) and the Corniche (a road along the sea) Marseille has definitely a lot to offer. The weather was cold and crispy but sunny which brightened our spirits as we reached the BoatPod studio. You might here a couple of heavy breathing on the mic lol. It was a very cold day!!!

Soul Partizan #101 Celebrating 100 Monthly Shows

Its a early morning raise for me, as its time to finally move out of my spot in East London. All week I have been, planning, structuring, getting rid of stuff from the past with some remorse but I know its all for the best. Its time for a change and I am so happy that this moment has come. 
The plan is my delivery man/driver Ufuoma, is on his way, and its up to me to get the 40+ boxes and 1500 vinyl records ready on the landing so its much easier to load into the van. Thank god there's a lift !!!!
So for the first time i thought it would be a good idea to make a show out of todays activity, combining all the tracks I ruffled through during my time of packing with fantastic new music.

My brothers birthday, Fathers Day, the longest day, but the stand out event for me was the celebration of 75 years since HMS Empire Windrush set sail from Kingston Jamaica in 1948 to Tilbury (Essex). Tonights show is dedicated to this culture. My culture, the vibes, sounds that gatecrashed and smashed opened  a multicultural sub culture and a way of life x

Landed at Rome Ciampino airport to glorious weather (which always help). Slick little airport, easy to navigate and directions straight forward 
The airport bus stop was two minutes from the entrance and takes around 20mins to get to the nearest metro: Laurenstina. Once there had a little wonder @ Mercato Di VIia Sannio, found a cute vinyl, cd store, then got my metro tickets. It was easy to navigate &  get where I needed to go which was four stops away, location: Brasilica San Pietro
Linked up with Joel ( my new family!!)  who had keys, showed me around and was a perfect host. Let the adventure begin
