I’ve been trying to record this mix for years. It’s a bunch of records that I genuinely love playing because they make me feel good. Some old ones, some newer discoveries, but all sounds that remind me of going out and discovering music, of friends, of playing gigs, of Cork, of GoDeep, of The Pav and of making memories that are more sensations than they are stories. Grateful that the current world has given me the opportunity to finally record it 🙏

The Mix The Mix The Mix

A reference work, a body of knowledge, a record of human endeavour: this archival release of works from Arcarsenal's fertile collaboration in the period 2011–2016 is all of those things. Pressed on its two discs you will find, in the duo's own words, the 'broken flowers that needed just a little care and attention to bloom'. And exquisite flowers they are, rooted in the reduced formality of minimalism, yet prone to frequent and unabashed florescence. Ranging from their very earliest productions, made with limited gear, through to later recordings from a fully-equipped studio, the tracks move from techno to dub and house and into blissful after-hours and ambient, all with the rich and spacious imprint that is their own. Most of these tracks have been firm favourites on the dancefloor, whether played by other DJs or Arcarsenal themselves, yet this is the first time any of them have seen an official release. This 'Compendium' is a record of Arcarsenal's past achievements; only time will tell what new endeavours the two may pursue.

Bside Incoming: Metropolitan Soul Museum

We're welcoming a London based duo to the Bside Turntables. Filippo and Nick Woolfson (Mock and Toof) used to run Teng Records and play together at the city’s premier venues like Peckham’s Rye Wax and DreamBags Juguarshoes, but for more than five years now they’ve operated under the name: Metropolitan Soul Museum (MSM)

They are top class producer’s and have released their ‘sonically melodic’ brand of electronic music on labels like Public Release, Rawax, Gestalt Records, Normals Welcome, Echocentric Records, Lyssna Records.
Filippo even played us a couple of their lovely productions! The beautiful E State from their Travellers EP as well as Call Super’s remix of one of Nick’s (Mock and Toof) tracks called The Key.

But here’s a banging Bside from their first release on a label that has featured on our 'Bside of' showcase … Toy Tonics:

Under The Gun V was mixed by A²’s Alec Stone in dedication to his friend and other half of the production duo, Andy Panayi, who sadly passed away a few months ago. We’d never met the guys but have long been big fans of their music and they were due to play our party back in May, which didn’t go ahead for obvious reasons. We were really looking forward to rearranging the gig post-Covid when we heard the news. A big thank you to Rob for arranging this, and Alec for putting together a very special podcast. SLP Label was now set to explore and define the genre of deep house in all of its varieties, and to do so more organically and poetically being marked to a degree by extravagant, dramatic house music.

The label would foster a continuous flow of ideas and creativity of fellowproducers as well as the development of new artists and their styles.
