Birthday session in Paris. By ’83, LA gigs were gone, so the Quartet landed in Europe—Quebec City, then Pigalle. The album starts heavy, with “Wrong Church, Right God” and three more slow burners—loss, sanctuary, and letting go. Side two lifts the mood: morning in Paris, lighter, looser, exile behind them.

Studio L’Insulaire was Jacques Moreau’s sanctuary—kitchen as control room, TEAC 80-8 as altar. Chain-smoked, perfectionist, knew when tape was right. When the session clicked, he’d just nod.
