I finished recording EVIVA late October 2000. It was originally a CD, first I burned them one at a time and printed and cut a bunch of covers, then I got the CD manufactured properly. There were a lot of these CDs out there at one point, I wonder how many are still around. This was something of a message in a bottle to a pleasant piece of my imagination. Thirteen years later, same place, different time. It is the 1st part of a 3 part series, I still owe one more to it, maybe one day........

This mixtape brought a lot into my life, and I've been told that this mixtape brought a lot into others lives too. I hope you enjoy it.

The Cold Queen City which chills on the easternmost banks of the ever tumultuous Lake Erie has spawned more funk than blizzards, yet until now it has been infamous only for the latter. What you hold in your mitts right now, an unprecedented mix of twenty rare Buffalo funk gems spanning twenty years, intends to change this. Most of the funk contained within was only distributed locally and regionally by small independent labels scattered throughout the city on Hertel, Delaware, Main St., High St., 'East Side', etc. In runs of as little as a few hundred, one song came from a west coast label which signed a Buffalo artist after he was stranded on tour; one record was an independently distributed private pressing from a Buffalo funk legend early in his career. Some songs are straight B-Lo funk, some high-flying jazz fusion, some psychedelic horn rock, some smooth soul serenades, and a few are groundbreaking hip hop sleepers which influenced the much better known artists of the Golden Era. The entire mix, however, is cohesively bound by a unique Buffalonian style and identity which can be described no better than as 'Blue Collar Funk'. Close your eyes, listen closely and you can feel the soot of Bethlehem steel permeate the cold East Side air as you wait in line at the Rockpile to see O.J. in all his sunday splendor...

I've been on a two year long hiatus from the vinyls / mixtape game, however after much deliberation and delay, I'm happy to give you Part 002 in a series of mixes curated by Mike Who and myself: CORNERSTONE SELECTIONS. Recorded in one take with not much preparation, grimy and raw, one-take, Sunnybank style.

This one is 74-minutes long and features 36 records that I wanted to share specifically with Mike. Expect sounds ranging from sweet soul, high school disco rap, reggae, rap samples, psych, post punk, city pop, jazz, rap dance boogie, Latin, cover versions, Asian joints, dancing music and much more! Over two decades of hard work dug mostly in person from the depths of the UK, US, France, New Zealand, Scotland, Thailand, Africa, Turkey, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Holland and more!

Part two of a trilogy of mixes from the "Diggers Dozen" event that I put on in Brisbane, Australia back in 2014. Each of these themed mixes each feature 12 top-tier records hand picked from the Bulletproof Crates played out live on 2 turntables, mixer and a Kaossilator.

This second mix is the 45 Crate, featuring some little 7" vinyls dug up in dusty record stores, flea markets & junk shops in the depths of France, Poland, Czech Republic, Japan, Amsterdam, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Australia and the US. Tune into some dusty downtempo drum heavy proto hip-hop, funk, psych, soundtracks and electronic weird gear.

The next and final mix in this trilogy will drop soon and be nothing by 12 of the hottest library joints you'll ever hear!
