For the 6th edition of our Grooveology guest-mix series we are delighted to welcome one of our favourite UK-based labels, Moment Cinetique, back to the platform for what is another stellar set. Just hit the link in our bio.

Delivered by label boss, Dave Platts, it’s a perfect blend of highs and lows as he takes us through the motions with deep flavours from Frits Wentink and Keita Sano perfectly contrasted with uplifting tones from Sweet Fruity Brunch, Nebraska and Tree Threes, the latter of which featuring twice on the mix with some great new and forthcoming music by way of the Moment Cinetique label. For the final 3rd of the set, Dave ramps up the energy with some hedonistic vibes from Kaffe Crème, Sudden Moves and Lay-far, on labels such as Pomme Frite, Freerange and Slothboogie to name a few

Its deep, its disco and its house all at the same time. A great representation of the label and the sounds that Dave works so hard to curate. We thank him for his time as always and hope that you enjoy the mix as much as we do!

What's shakin funky people?!?  We are back with Volume 196 of the series, and we are thrilled to present our next downtempo mix by the super talented Aaron French from Sacramento, California!

Born in Fremont, Ca.  Raised in Sacramento, Ca.  DJ Aaron French re-awoke as a DJ after attending MF50 in 2019.  Prior, Aaron was a house party DJ living downtown Sacramento in the mid 00’s on the same block as The Press Club (P Street).  Before this, Aaron became an admirer of House music in 1997 after listening to a few prominent DJ sets in the United DJs of America compilation.  He spent the next 8 years listening to hundreds of different sets, learning some of techniques from those DJs.  Since, most of the beats Aaron jammed to back then were CD album mixes bought in stores like Tower Records and Virgin Megastore, he found himself branching out a tad and also listening to what the Global Underground DJs were also doing.  So dance music became dope, instead something to be made fun of like in junior high (remember The Grind on MTV?  We made fun of that. 😬).  

Then there is Mushroom Jazz.  Aaron became a HUGE fan after #2 dropped.  Was already a fan of East Coast rap so to Aaron MJ was a super unique application of instrumental hip hop and downtempo beats.  Aaron played the heck out of those mix albums in his car and many other places.  In fact, in March of 2005 when MJ5 was released, Aaron grabbed a copy right away from the downtown Sacramento Tower Records and brought it to a sizable birthday party (80+ people) of a long time friend of his.  At the party, music was playing, but it was pop.  The MJ5 disk was then gracefully placed into the sound system there, and 🚀.  The party erupted.  Right then it was decided that Aaron had to do something to start mixing beats on his own.

Unfortunately, Aaron never broke into the club scene as a club DJ, but he is here now

Mark Crown, known as Kingcrowney, is a producer/trumpeter hailing from North West London.

He works closely with Mobo and Brit Award winning band Rudimental, recording and touring with them since 2013. Some of his most niticeable work can be heard on tracks such as Feel The Love ft. John Newman, which features Kingcrowney's trumpet solo at the peak of the track.

Kingcrowney also boasts trumpet and producer credits for Mahalia, Rita Ora, Gorgon City and Dr Meaker among others.

Having studied jazz trumpet at Trinity College of Music, Mark has always had a passion for improvising, alongside a love of house music. Now focusing on his own projects, he brings that passion to life with his unique fusion of sounds, which can be heard in his first release for 2020, Rainman.
