Rift makes a powerful return on Dispatch Limited with the Black & Gold EP, a five-track collection that marks a fresh chapter in his sound. After stepping back from production to reset his creative direction, Rift channels a rawer approach, drawing on the influence of early 2000s drum & bass while weaving in the tense, atmospheric qualities of cinematic scores. The result is an EP that feels both stripped-back and expansive, balancing heavy pressure with eerie, suspenseful sound design.

Veteran drum & bass artist Calyx continues his winning streak for Critical Music with two more masterfully rendered pieces of sonic art.

The clue is in the name on ‘Repercussion’, as the legendary producer keeps things relatively low-key with a frenetic, percussive drum workout that bustles with congas and intricate rhythms.

‘Forever’ takes a heavier, more experimental path; with a slicing, hypnotic kick-snare beat locking Calyx’s trademark twisted mid-bass and foreboding atmospherics into an irresistible groove.

For seven years, the duo have been collaborating building something formidable as part of the OCC collective - swapping unfinished loops and samples, and constantly pushing each other's limits. Together they've honed a workflow based on trust, intuition, and relentless iteration. Their partnership sits inside the same creative orbit that's produced some of Bristol's most energetic bass music, and their recent output has been attracting huge attention for their vibe first approach.
