DKN - Regular

This Various Artist compilation is curated in support of British Columbia, Canada, which has been affected by Historic flooding across many of the southern parts of the province. This disaster has displaced thousands and has caused ongoing issues with infrastructure in many of its communities, with the risk of more damage on the way.

As creatives, the one thing we can do is use our passion to raise funds for those affected by this disaster. Once the idea was made to step up and curate an album, we were approached by Digital Motion BC who were already sitting on a 12 track LP, that they wished to donate to this project.

 In addition, many local artists have offered their music alongside some heavy-hitting international talents as well.
 This album shows how compassionate our scene is, and we are eternally grateful for all the love and support!

Skeptical will be opening the Exit Records 2015 release schedule on 19th January with a 4 track 12" EP. Believe it or not, this is Skeptical's debut solo release on Exit, with previous contributions consisting of his monster collaboration with Dub Phizix and Strategy, the mighty Marka, as well as individual tracks on the Mosaic series 1 and 2.
 
The EP features the percussive roller and title track 'Imperial', which has been taking dance floors deep into the jungle over the last few months in typical Skeptical fashion. As usual with his tracks this is not laptop music. Sub bass is essential to appreciate the full production qualities and the whole EP demonstrates his power to achieve the utmost with the very minimum.

Rude Operator's dissonant intro on Witchdoctor synthesizes a half-time beat with jazz undertones before bouncing into a percussive bassline. Constantly evolving drum patterns, punctuated with horn bursts and upright bass from Ornette Hawkins, keep the dance floor moving.

Many moons ago I had the opportunity of doing a remix for my good friend @samkdc. Sam is one of my favourite producers and also happens to be one of my favourite people in the world. He released the 'Six Degrees Of Separation' EP on @deepsoulmusic and I chose to flip the title track . The remix EP was never released and sadly the label was retired soon after. Now, after many years as an exclusive, I have decided to give away the track. The Blacklab brothers Kariem and Kashim from Las Vegas, are back on Soulvent following up their 2018 single ‘Human Condition’. Clearly comfortable this side of the pond, this time they are doubling down with a lustrous 4 track EP entitled ‘Violet’ - which clearly reflects their varied and expansive sound. From the whimsical, laid back vibe of ‘Early Birds’ to the gritty underground feel of ‘Unreal’, there is certainly a little something for everyone with this debut EP from the Nevada natives.
	
Opener ‘Early Birds’ certainly catches the worm with crooning, siren-like vocals before dropping into an easy-listening groove backed by raspy saxophone and twinkling keys. A soft primer dripping with grace that sets the tone of what is to come. 

Title track ‘Violet's tubular bells, rousing string plucks and calm tones provide a blooming soundscape for the bracing drum work to shine through. Another sublime piece of arpeggiated liquid from the American pair.

‘Columbia’s double bass instantly gets your toes tapping, developing into a moody mover of a tune. The bongo laden break has a distinctively vintage feel to it. Haunting atmospheres and swelling bass textures result in a track drenched in sophisticated, measured energy. 

Finally, ‘Unreal’ comes to life with an ominous, techy intro. A high energy, shuffling break provides the platform for a ribcage shakingly powerful bass line that will find itself at home on both home and club systems alike.

Out in all good stores on the 7th of August, don’t sleep on these delicious desert vibes from Blacklab.
