Sound Metaphors (@sound-metaphors) is Nemo Ripoll and Castro Moore, but it is also the name of their famously well-curated label and record shop in Berlin. As such the pair has been helping to define the sound of the underground on many different fronts - electric DJ sets, cult events and even through the custom-made sound systems built for customers worldwide. With a vast musical knowledge between them and a never-ending supply of their own unreleased edits and DJ tools, they are able to tell musical stories that draw from all across all genres and many different eras.

That plays out in the superb mix they have put together for us this week. It's a full-bodied selection that shows off their love of contrasting styles - loose, percussive house music brushes up with deep and dubby cuts, dark acid grooves sit next to '80s synth sounds before a disco finish goes from stomping to funky. The exuberance of it all is infectious and leaves you wanting more.

The beautifully designed shop based in Kreuzberg that also boasts a dope sound system operates two labels, one under the same name that has put out dance floor orientated releases and reissues by DJ Dove and DJ Fettburger to name a few + the mysterious H.A.N.D. sub-label. Nemo Ripoll and Castro Moore are true music lovers that have been manifesting
their love for dancefloor culture and beliefs in aural aesthetics via a number of outlets.
 On the business side they‘ve been running Sound Metaphors Records - one of
Berlin‘s finest record shops, known for an exquisite selection of hand picked releases
along with monthly in-store sessions showcasing local and traveling producers and
deejays. Sound Metaphors is also a label with two sublabels - „Missyou“ and „Thankyou“ -
dedicated to officially repressing a catalogue of once rare and obscure musical masterpieces.
 On the party side of things, the two have been involved with countless illegal raves
in mysterious public spaces throughout Geneva‘s urban landscape. While in Berlin they
are also behind the infamous H.A.N.D. (Have A Nice Day) parties which have curated an
array of exquisite lineups with some of the world‘s most relevant underground DJ‘s and
music collectors such as Vladimir Ivcovik, Mark Grusane, Idjut Boys, Tako, Invisible City,
Chee Shimizu and more. H.A.N.D. is also a label which functions as a platform for unorthodox whitelabel DJ tool edits, very reminiscent of their uncategoraizeable and uncompromising DJing styles from Baleric downtempo to 138bpm 70‘s disco productions.
 The two have been known to surprise crowds with their unique sets on some of
Berlin‘s most renowned underground dancefloors like Cocktail D‘Amore, Panorama Bar and
Atonal Festival to name a few.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
This mix was recorded at one of our HAND parties, we recorded it on a Bozak with a 4 band isolator on the master output, no eq per channel…keeping it simple :) we also use some dorrough meters to keep the levels relatively constant.
The idea is to basically capture and hopefully express some of the magic we often experience at Have A Nice Day with the wonderful crowd and vibes. I think there’s something special that will always be felt in a mix if it is recorded at a party with 200 people enjoying themselves and certain freedoms instead of if it's recorded with us alone in a studio or in our living room.
　
Q1. 今回のミックスはどこでどのように収録しましたか？今回のミックスを作りあげる上でのアイデアがあれば教えてください
これは僕たちのHANDパーティーでレコーディングされたんだ。シンプルな方がいいからイコライザ―は使わず、Bozakとアイソレーター４つをマスターアウトに、レベルを出来るだけ一定に保つためにdorrough meterを使って録音したよ。
ミックスを作っていく上で僕たちはHANDでよく体験する魔法のようなものを表現したくて、200人以上の人が最高に楽しんでる中レコーディングされたこのミックスは普段スタジオで作ってるものと違って、時間が経ってもずっと特別に感じられるものになっていると思うよ。
