Yuzo Iwata aka Fabio, 50% Cubano, 50% Japanese, Karate blackbelt and DJ/producer, originally from the Iwata Juku Dojo in Japan and now based in Berlin, Yuzo shares with us his latest fascinations from dancefloor land. A rich and thoughtfully put together excursion throughout breakbeat, synthetic psychedelia, new beat and other stellar four-on-the-floor nuances. From working in some of Berlin's finest record stores (*wink*), Yuzo has clearly developed a relationship well beyond familiar with records in a wide range of genres - let this mix take you where you need to go.

Very excited to feature a really special new mix by an old friend from Milan, Gabriele (Sunny Crypt) collects records, occasionally enjoys playing weird music to dancing crowds and also spends some of his happiest days working in a record shop. 
Driven by a strong curiosity towards a wide range of musical genres coming from different eras and different cultural contexts, in a previous life he’s been a resident DJ at Milan’s Dude Club, a true institution for italian clubbing during the last decade. Open you hearts <3

A previous guest of honor at H.A.N.D. as we debuted the series with a recording of his first class workings at Have A Nice Day a few years back - Piers Harrison presents us with yet another generous offering to our new mix series. Sound Metaphors Mix Series 04 : Piers Harrison

Richii Tomoe is a seasoned music lover who’s no stranger to the rodeo when it comes to international club scenes. Starting out as a party promoter in Fukuoka, Richii has led a global\nomadic lifestyle spanning from Japan to Australia and most recently Berlin, allowing her to rack up a considerable portfolio of dancefloor miles in different scenes. Richii’s unique sense of club experience has inevitably guided her towards the DJ booth, debuting throughout various events this past summer, most notably the much spoken about “Speedy Boarding” raves (involuntarily hosted by Elon Musk on Tesla grounds) along with the Sound Metaphors Summer party at Oxi Garden. As a new member to the Sound Metaphors family, we’re honored to bring you one of her recorded mixes. We hope this helps illustrate the exquisite flavors of Richii’s latest DJ pursuits.

@no_frills duo Viktor & Lukas deliver a very generous offering to the Sound Metaphors mix series featuring 2 hours of tastefully selected synthetic dancefloor jams. They have a stellar collection of mixes going on for a while now @5918mins. and have recently debuted their presence in vinyl industry with a No frills label that jump started with a re-issue that has been a buy on sight record ever since it came out a couple months ago - good luck finding a copy now - with more amazing stuff coming out soon! The homework is done, the research is there, facts are facts - No f(r)illers, only killers on the floor - listen carefully! <3 and be good to your discogs wantlist.

Sound Metaphors Mix Series 09: No Frills

A man who needs little introduction in pure record loving circles, Norio Sato is the force behind Rare Groove record store in Osaka. Norio's dedication to music of almost all genres is deep and methodically insightful, his mixes have been inspiring references to us at Sound Metaphors for a while now, so to be able to share this one is a proper delicacy for us. 

In his words: "This time, I made a mix of my friend's tracks from Japan (Boogie, house and Nu disco ... etc) and a little bit of 90's and 2000's Japanese obscure breakbeats tracks.
I hope you like it."

Sound Metaphors Mix Series 10 : Norio Sato

Nummer is a Berlin based duo comprised of Silvere & Manu, two exiled french cats who started their project in London back in 2010. Releasing a string of records on Going Good, Butter Sessions and their own Nummer Music imprint. In 2018, the boys further broadened their reach with the launch of the Natural Selections label & night.
In their own words:
"We recorded this mix just before the return of our residency night 'Natural Selections' at Ohm, tracks that we had been putting aside especially for that occasion. Bringing together old school and new school prog house, some tunes found on random cd comps, some approximately ripped records and a few bargained soulseek steals. This mix is a glimpse into that moment in time."

Born in France, raised in USA, Taiwan & Hong Kong, Romain’s rootless background, aspires him to dream of a borderless cosmos where everyone dances in harmony to the rhythm of any melody. After moving to Europe half-time, he launched his production career with releases on his own imprint Fauve Records as well as on other labels such as Permanent Vacation, Kalahari Oyster Cult, 禁 JIN, Freeride, Millennium, MINITEL, LAGASTA, Eskimo Recordings…Thanks to 15 years of crate digging, this fellah knows his classics as well as some of the most obscure nuggets & can adapt his sets to any context. From sunrise sessions on a beach to a festival on the Great Wall of China.

Sound Metaphors Mix Series 13 : Romain FX

A Berlin legend that needs no further introduction, his knowledge in music is academic, a walking library by all means with credentials few DJs can hold a candle to, such as having been a member of The Ennio Morricone Society (MSV - Musica Sul Velluto) - seriously... @finn_johannsen brings us a two part mix of extensive research in Hip-Hop.

In his words: 
"I do not often play hip hop in clubs, but I have been listening to it since the 80s, and collecting it too. I love all kinds of hip hop, but the particular mid 90s to early 00s sound represented in these two mixes is the one I still listen to the most. I must admit that I adopted this sound quite late, as I previously preferred those records punchy and fast enough to be danced to at clubs playing disco, and then house. When the tempo slowed down in the 90s I was initially confused, well maybe even a bit annoyed. But soon enough I adapted to it, and recognized its very own appeal. Doing these mixes has occupied my mind for a while now, but it really came back to my mind during the lockdown, when I couldn't bear to listen to club music because it was just rubbing in what was missing from my life. Sometimes then I felt moody and frustrated as well, and the vibe of this helped me along. The grit, the wit, the roughness, the immensely varied and creative ways of making beats. I must admit the main purpose of these two mixes was to include all my favourite records, so I can listen to them in a row. Of course there are hip hop DJs who do that way better than me (you will probably notice that there is not a single scratch in the whole 7+ plus hours playtime, for example), and I salute them all. But I wanted to have my own personal soundtrack for whatever purpose I felt should be accompanied by this kind of music. I tried and tested it, and I am happy how well it works in different contexts, but they are all nocturnal. This is not really jiggy, mind. But I hope you like it nonetheless. The booming artwork was provided by the mighty King Kummi aka The Druffalo Graphic Squad."

Hailing from Japan, TAKAKO was previously a member of ラズマタズ白書, an event/AV collective based in Fukuoka consisting of women only DJs and artists, who kept their scene fresh by hosting a steady string of monthly parties focusing on local DJs.
To continue pursuing her growing passion for sound, Takako re-located to Berlin where she currently studies sound design. As a DJ she is known for presenting genre bending selections of thrilling techno, percussive trance and pure D'n'B.

Featuring close Sound Metaphors family member Brooke aka @__manolo_______ big time record and music enthusiast from around the block who has probably come to spend more time at the shop than some of our staff members by now ❤️ His love for music has led him to pursue higher grounds as a sound technician (hit him up for any jobs behind the mixing console! 🎩🚀) which has established his relationship with sound and music in very special ways. Growing up in the East Coast, it's only fair to say that house music has been his vegetable garden for a while now, a persuasive salad for the soul, this farmer is here to get your week in check. Among the terms that lie at the core of our shared lexicon as music lovers, “discovery” might be one of the most fundamental in expressing the drive behind each and every one of our efforts. It may seem simple, but it is a complex notion that involves many actions and sensations, from learning things and taking risks to finding rewards and building knowledge. Discovering is a quintessential part of our collective identity, a unique way of being and feeling, since unveiling parts of reality that were hidden from us is both a way of creating ourselves and the world around us.

So, when this talented discoverer of musical artifacts decided to use the Ancient Greek word for it as his moniker, he wasn’t just trying to name himself but mainly to come up with a precise definition for what he is and does as an artist.

Thus, Anacalypto can be many things at once, the main one being exactly what guides every single one of his initiatives and animates relentless dancing journeys: that perennial sense of wonder that tapping into the unknown brings into our lives.
