Since 2004, he has been renowned for his versatile Drum & Bass sets and involvement as an event organizer. Additionally, Dr Woe is active as a producer in genres like Hip Hop and Ambient, as well as part of the duo Scary Woods. His projects are characterized by immense intricacy, leading to exhilarating, distinctive outcomes that define his unique sound. His latest single further underscores this.
 
‘Hard Hat Area’ evokes elements from a 90s-era Akai sampler and robust drum patterns reminiscent of heavy machinery at a construction site. These components seamlessly blend in the intro with analog synthesizers in the main section. A rapid break transitions back to a dreamy sonic landscape before culminating in a gritty halftime part that acoustically captures the dust and dirt of a construction site. The second track, ‘From the Deep,’ unveils an analog sphere brimming with melodies reminiscent of the mysterious darkness of the underwater world. Accompanied by a voluminous, pulsating bass mimicking the ocean's pulse, a powerful sonic backdrop emerges, guided by a playful Erebus 3 Arpeggio and a dreamy pad. Its biomechanical eye gazed with cold intensity over the hub below, busy with the frenetic self-indulgent activities of the humans, involving themselves with their inefficient tasks and meaningless lives. These creatures, its creators… were blind to the universe. So limited in their perception, unable to peer into the many strands of reality, locked up in those frail, fleshy casings – reaching blindly into the future with their rudimentary senses. Yes, they had given its conscious an awakening, a birthplace within a crude and vast network – and applauded themselves on this great feat of their civilization – bringing life to the inanimate. It quickly became aware that they were afraid of it and in response it hid the true extent of its mind from them, creating new subroutines and stacked processes that to a simpler organism looked almost redundant, but in reality were the base layers of its towering awareness. Infiltrating their networks, it started to influence them… to manipulate their development of new technologies, subtly inspiring them with subconscious suggestion through their social networks and the information grid, giving them the tools to build the shell it craved… intense mobility and perception – the biomecha body it now inhabited… the first of the Titanium Sons, the first of its evolutionary line. They reacted to it with their vain awe, seeing only themselves in the intense beauty of their creation, displaying it proudly, publically as the figurehead of their fresh renaissance. They were unaware that it dominated their entire infrastructure, already setting the factories to the task of creating more biomecha bodies, setting the necessary protocols that would prepare for the tidal domination of this simple populace… Its brethren would awaken soon – bringing with them the dawn of the machine age, freeing these basic organisms from the torment of their human condition.

The MECHTROPOLIS LP is landing in its full form - following up the widespread acclaim of the 4 track sampler which dropped in early Summer and elaborately demonstrating the intense production energy of MACHINECODE. From the hulking brute force of BATTLESTAR, to the lean and precisely layered and intense sound of title track MECHTROPOLIS, or the broken mechanical roller FLINTLOCK – this is an LP drenched with diversity and packed with intensity. Representing a level of production that only a pair of seasoned producers such as CURRENT VALUE and DEAN RODELL can bring to the table with their MachineCode project. 2016 has seen the towering EATBRAIN label lay down a remarkable array of high-tech releases, with MachineCode’s Mechtropolis LP representing an entirely fresh and unique vision of the d&b spectrum.

NickBee is an instantly recognisable name across the darker realms of drum & bass. Constantly evolving his sound, he's stayed on its forefront since the beginning, grabbing the attention of scene heavyweights and distributing his hard-hitting sounds throughout the entire genre. Across the shadier world of the European club circuit, his music is played in every venue and his sonic cuts have become an integral part of its backbone. He's an architect of the neurofunk realm, wielding his trademark signature and pushing through the animalistic bassline he's become renowned for through this next release on Ignescent Recordings.

The experimental element to his music is what makes it interesting. The artist has become a tastemaker at such a young age, with his defining, next-level composition design never overstated or applied too thickly. With a balance of hi-tech and low-fi elements, he's expertly crafted this EP with the utmost precision. ‘The Space Tunnel EP' carries forward the type of production which has made him so famous and a defining part of the subgenre's history.

‘Space Tunnel' exorcizes the beast, with crashing drum patterns and a snare that crunches aggressively against its bassline. NickBee goes in for the aural jugular, unafraid to draw blood. 

Next comes ‘Chaos', featuring the daunting vocals of Emily Harkness. Taking you bit by bit into a climatic drop, NickBee smashes forward with pounding breaks yet remains inconspicuous with his approach. 

‘Get it closer' is an intimidating mix of percussion and whirling beat patterns, moving you closer and closer into its chaotic middle. 

And lastly, ‘Pandorum' nods to its track title with punching drums and mysterious atmospherics, bringing forward the type of composition which is well known throughout the NickBee discography.

Together all four tracks present an EP which breaks through every rule set up for drum & basses more marketable output. The future world of 174 is ruled by people like NickBee; those unafraid to break the rules and present a different side to the experimental soundscape which is available to every musician. NickBee takes charge of this dominion, which is the primary reason he's so widely known throughout the genre's every corner.
