In a small valley between two mountains in the Icelandic Westfjords, you can find the source of creativity for the Reykjavík based Icelandic DJ and producer, Jónbjörn. As well as being an accomplished DJ, performing in Berlin, Vienna, Helsinki, Tbilisi and festivals such as Sonar Reykjavik and Secret Solstice, the last three years has seen Jónbjörn carving out a solo career both as a graphic designer, and music producer developing a sound of his own working with labels such as Neo Violence, FALK Records, D.KO Records and remixes on his Lagaffe Tales imprint – the label he’s been running for the past seven year runs with his friend Viktor Birgiss. In 2020 Lagaffe Tales will introduce more artists on the BROT series which @felixleifur started ever so memorably with a headturning trilogy in 2019.

The opener entitled ‘Shamisen’ kicks off the EP with stabbing electro drums, fluttering synth work harmonising with the gentle melodies throughout while ‘Anthophila Anna’ provides a more technofocused feel with raw modulations, acid-fuelled tones and surging, lo-fi rhythms.

On the filp, ‘Tinni’ deploys a menacing synth line, growing oscillations floating with the weight-driven kicks and snares offering up a peak-time dancefloor focused cut before ‘Sakuragawa’ rounds off proceedings with shimmering grooves harmonising with the aquatic tones and effervescent elements that pulsate until the end.

The first physical media manifestation by Portland producer Dan Kirschner aka Well Being blurs the boundary between warehouse and wilderness, future and nature, free-flowing frameworks of deep house, relaxed acid, and dewdrop electronics: Pleasure Garden. From the sparkling windswept hang-glide of “Deep Sea Exploration” to the slinky forest path jack of “Moon Valley,” the EP encapsulates a spectrum of contemporary Cascadia eco-techno modes and moves: club cuts tricked with crickets, cloud bank pads above damp earth bass, rainforest rave rhythms filtered through studio skylights. Sequenced palindromically, side one is all originals, side two alternate mixes — including an elusive aerial “rebuild” by Pac Northwest peer Akasha System. Bristol-based up-and-comer Joe Litherland - Artist name Litherland - joins Mood Of The Era with Proximan Betrayal, a release that is best described as a cerebral cocktail party of tingling euphoria and emotion. 

  The 21-year-old British Southwest native might still be considered as a neophyte of sorts in the world of electronic music but recent releases showcase a sophisticated sound that innovatively combines elements from new wave electro, breaks, trance, acid, and techno.  

Kicking off the 3-tracker with MOTE Records is Proxima, a goose bump guaranteed, relentless slab of trancey acid and electro house that burrows deep into the listeners subconscious with its sparkling synth patterns, dreamy pads, and fading vocals.

  In pursuit of Proxima, is Strife a gargantuan dance floor shredder with its thundery and adrenaline-fuelled acid patterns, backed up by thumping drum work and deep rolling basslines.   

Orbital 191 closes the EP with its melancholic and soft ambient soundscapes that are topped with playful percussions and synth patterns that together create a tantalizing journey through space and time.
