Dam Swindle's Maarten Smeets, aka Wanderist, launches his Transient Nature imprint this April with four-track EP 'Think Potential' from Dukwa.
Transient Nature is a label dedicated to the world of machine funk with a sonic aesthetic of off-kilter techno and electro, and the first release sees Dukwa deliver an EP as varied as it is powerful. Transient Nature has a busy 2021 planned with releases from Detroit's Scan7, Black Cadmium and Maarten's solo project: Wanderist. The 'Think Potential' EP is deeply rooted in gritty electronics and illustrates the producer's love for hardware and vintage techniques - three of the tracks are hardware jams recorded straight to tape.

The driving Rhodes licks and fluttering percussion on 'Who Cares' gets the EP rolling before the distorted electronica and stabbing 303s fuse harmoniously on 'High Position'. Up next, 'It's U' delivers an old-school tinged electro number with its slamming drums, robotic vocals and squeaking acid lines. The EP closer, 'Eye2eye' sees Dukwa moving deeper into the electronica territory with industrial drums and dreamy piano lines working together with mesmerising effect.

With recent output ranging from Detroit house inspired MPC-driven tracks to more conceptual electronic work, Dukwa's soulful yet dynamic releases for the likes of Numbers, Don't Be Afraid and his eponymous imprint have won a wide range of support as well as picking up a coveted 'Hottest Record in The World' from the BBC's Annie Mac.

'Sunset Gradients' paints a vivid horizon of sound, observed in solar cycles of time. Through passive immersion in its atmosphere of elegant, sparkling production, or active engagement with equally compelling beats and melodies, there are several contexts to go deep into this collection while easily forming a habit of basking in its effervescent vibes.

Elements of electro funk, synthwave and vaporwave, hip hop, downtempo electronica and lo fi beats make up the 14 vibrant cuts on this LP. Paul Blackford seems to draw infinite patterns and hooks from the ether, colouring them in his own distinctly-fashioned palette of sound and vision. 'Sunset Gradients' is a calm wave set of warm moods, every track surging through its own perceptible hue, and purposefully giving way to the next.

Hosting episode 15 we have Leipzig-based DJ & Producer @deejaydetox. 

DJ Detox has been producing for a number of years and we're sure many of you guys are aware of what DJ Detox is all about! You lot may know him from releasing on some of the scenes most consistant labels such as FTP, Raiders and more. 

In 2020 DJ Detox released a EP on Leipzig label "R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings" where he put together 4 bass driven tracks showcasing his mastery of electro, techno & breaks. 

The mix he has concocted for us today is very different and refreshing, Detox has put together a real nice set for you guys this week. Delving into various styles and keeping the energy high throughout with seamless and lovely mixing.

DJ Detox Guest mix S5 EP 15

They say that one man's trash is another man's treasure: that was certainly true of today's find. The streets were lined with cardboard boxes and tables, some neatly organised and labeled, others thrown together in a hasty mess. Trinkets, books, photos and old clothes were amongst the sea of unwanted items that cluttered the tables; to the untrained eye most would never have made that golden discovery. But for him, this was the missing part of a puzzle that he'd started long ago. 

The last year or two has been very fruitful for Rotterdam-based duo Black Cadmium. Since their debut solo EP on Ovum Recordings, they've dropped music for Vault Wax and Violet's Naive imprint, channeling their love of Detroit and London sounds into their output. Now they make their way to Wanderist's Transient Nature imprint, the label set up by one half of Dam Swindle, Marteen Smeets, to spotlight the best in machine funk, techno and everything in between. Like Black Cadmium's previous releases, the four tracks on ‘Inertia’ bridge sounds and eras, encompassing electro grooves, twilight house jams and dreamy acid cuts.
