The Orielles return with new EP, Jobin, released 1st April via ART IS HARD, and live dates.

Once considered Yorkshire’s best kept secret, a hugely successful 2015 well and truly placed Halifax-born trio The Orielles on the map of guitar-wielding stars. Now the troupe are back with anthemic new work, alongside UK dates between March and April alongside festival appearances this Summer.

The Jobin EP is set to be released on 1st April on ltd edition flexizine via ace DIY label Art is Hard it comes wiith; a 7" flexidisc featuring lead track Jobin, a 20 page colouring book zine illustrated by the awesome Alex Gamsu Jenkins and a download code for the full 3 track EP.

Garnering major interest thanks to their lilting harmonies, glistening guitars and punchy basslines, and spending last summer blowing people away with their electrifying sets at festivals including Dot To Dot, Live At Leeds and Liverpool Sound City, the surf-pop trio are ready to hit the road again, bringing their first EP of the year, Jobin, along for the ride.

The band - sisters Esme and Sid Hand-Halford and friend Henry Wade - formed after meeting at a house party, with the sisters only learning how to play their instruments after getting the band together. Keen advocates of DIY methods and following riot grrrl bands and California groups, The Orielles put their own stamp on that lo-fi sound. Receiving strong praise from NME, Steve Lamacq and Amazing Radio’s Shell Zenner, a strong following in Leeds, Manchester and their hometown of Halifax has grown into country-wide interest.

Again references can be made to the likes of The Raveonettes, The Breeders, Pixies and Beach Boys, with this latest release comprising soaring vocals, beautiful, distorted melodies and jangling six strings. Immediately hooking the listener in thanks to the unarguably infectious qualities, it’s the sound of summer arriving a few months early, and all the better for it. It’s also the sound that will be heading out to some of the finest small venues in England, from Birmingham to Sheffield, London to Nottingham, wiith appearances in Toronto for Canadian Music Week, Festevol, Flying Vinyl and Forgotten Fields festivals this Spring and Summer already announced, Definitely ones for the diary then.

The Mu-Tones release their debut single 'Slab City Records' on the 30th of June 2018 through Ugly Man Records. Supported by a launch show at Jimmy's Northern Quarter in Manchester on the same night! 

Manchester trio The Mu-Tones are a noisy garage pop band forged of three talents and a desire for direct communication, led by former Marion guitarist/songwriter Anthony Grantham and joined by Alex Redhead (bass) formerly of Amplifier and Peter Gray (drums) who used to play with Letters to Fiesta. The Mu-Tones manifesto is direct and to the point: short sharp songs crammed full of loud, angry,  weird magic. Anthony says "Some of them are about how I feel, and some of them show how I feel without making a lot of sense" 

Their debut single 'Slab City Records' is a bruising distillation of the Mu-Tones sound, filthy basslines, scorched riffing and railroading drums, it's flying across the rails into a sizzling crescendo, think The Pixies or Husker Du reassembled through Grantham's imagination. This urgent noise pop is laced with an insurgent ode to a forgotten area of the US: "Its an area in America not even on the map, run by solar power, apparently they have gigs on there, it's something I'd love to do." says Grantham "Also it DOES sound like the sort of thing you'd hear Lux Interior saying, which is kind of what the second verse is about."

Anthony Grantham was the guitarist and one of the songwriters in revered 1990s band Marion until they disbanded "When I left we had stopped writing, at least together, and writing has always been a great joy of mine"

Ugly Man Records was established in 1986 with the début release of Wonderful Life, by Liverpool band Black. Over the next 26 years they have had the good fortune to release débuts by Elbow, I am Kloot and Josephine Oniyama. They have published football fanzines and books by Frank Sidebottom.  Best of all, they are still here now releasing great music and finding even more emerging talent.

The Garrys release their new single 'Makeout at the Drive-In' on 13th of May 2018, through Grey Records.

Ahead of two shows at this year's Great Escape Festival in Brighton, Canadian sibling trio The Garrys have announced the release of a new single 'Makeout at the Drive-In'.

 'Makeout at the Drive-In' is a shimmering slice of surf pop,  tremulous guitar licks are draped in subtle strings, framed by percussive backdrops and infused with The Garrys longing entwined vocal harmonies. With elements of dream pop that could be lifted from a Beach House record, allied to the influence of reverb-heavy 1950s harmonies and a cinematic quality that recalls the Twin Peaks soundtrack. This delectable song conjures up images of summers days of the past spent pulling up to Drive in with your date 

The Garrys are a trio of sisters from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada who play garage surf pop doo-wop. Their harmonies are dreamy and precise, and their instrumentation stays true to the likes of Dick Dale and early Beatles. Formed in the spring of 2015, The Garrys pull a strong influence from early reverb rock'n'roll and 1950s era vocal harmonies. If Ed Sullivan went on a date with the Shangri-Las, they would eat ice cream sandwiches and dance to the Garrys. Like father, like daughter(s). The Garrys are Erica Maier, Julie Maier, and Lenore Maier.
 
The Garrys released their sophomore album, Surf Manitou, in Canada last year through Saskatoon label Grey Records. Surf Manitou is a concept LP written about the various places in the nostalgic prairie resort town of Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan. The album is more technical and more musically mature than their first effort,  raunchy and dreamy it comes with a gratuitous dose of beach sass.

At the annual ‘M for Montreal’ festival, The Garrys received a number of positive reviews from music critics, The Garrys received multiple generous reviews and were cited amongst several critics in attendance as being amongst ‘The Best of M for Montreal’.  The Garry's appear at this year's Great Escape festival in Brighton.

The Garrys - Makeout at the Drive-In

respectfulchild (敬兒) release their new UK single ‘Glitter on the 14th of May through Coax Records.’ 

Ahead of their UK tour including dates across the breadth of the country for the first time and a showcase at this year’s Great Escape  respectfulchild (敬兒) releases their evocative UK single ‘Glitter’ is an enveloping kaleidoscope of field recordings, fragments of melody and looping ambient instrumentation. Its exploration of sound and rhythm  elicits memories of childhood you have long since buried. 

respectfulchild (敬兒) is the solo instrumental project of Gan from Saskatoon on Treaty 6 Territory. Their music is both “electronic” in nature while being acoustically created, building experimental ambient soundscapes through slow progressions of meticulous improvisation. With a sound that has been likened to artists such as Brian Eno, Nils Frahm, and Owen Pallett, the lone presence of respectfulchild is able to bring quiet to even the noisiest of rooms.

The name respectfulchild is the literal translation of Gan’s Mandarin name 敬兒[jìng er]. This name was given to Gan by their grandmother when they were born, a name and a culture they’ve become estranged from having lived their whole life in the predominantly white world of the Canadian Prairies. The music of respectfulchild is Gan’s quiet way of seeking meaning in 敬兒 again.Last year  respectfulchild (敬兒) released 在找::searching:: through Coax Records back in Canada. 在找::searching:: is  敬兒‘s pursuit to find what they’ve lost and what they don’t yet know.

They've performed as direct support for Julia Holter, Hailu Mergia, Leif Vollebekk and played at all the regular, great Canadian festivals their sets bringing a calm and meditation in the bustle and movement of people, earning them slack jawed reviews (Sled Island, Pop Montreal, M for Montreal, etc.), this will be their first time over to the UK/Europe.

respectfulchild - Glitter

John MOuse releases his new album ‘The Goat’ via digital platforms on the 31st of July followed by a physical vinyl release on the 28th of August through Keep Me In Your Heart Records. It is preceded by the lead single ‘Le Pigeon’ at the end of this month.

When lockdown commenced John MOuse seized the opportunity to create a new album.  The concept behind The Goat, was to write, record and release a song on a weekly basis. Each song, accompanied by its own artwork was then uploaded to Bandcamp.

Social distancing meant that the music for the album was created Lincolnshire by long term collaborator Phil Pearce and then sent to John in Cardiff who worked on the lyrics and vocal melody for each track. The result is a typically idiosyncratic and heart on its sleeve, electronic pop album, heavy on spoken word content and catchy chorus hooks, these songs possess musical hints of everyone from Adian Moffat, Momus to early Pulp.

The lyrical subject matter is varied ranging from fleeing from a pigeon on urgent first single ‘Le Pigeon’ (loosely based on Suskins novella The Pigeon) with its vivid stream of consciousness and chirruping synths. To fragments of bittersweet memories, witty imagery, despair not salved by defunct technology and Anne Summers parties. 
Ten tracks were completed and are now set for official digital and physical release on Keep Me In your heart records. 

“The Goat” is John’s fifth full-length album and his first since last year’s limited digital release of The Fen Sessions and 2018’s warmly received ‘Replica Figures’  which was described as "In turns touching, hilarious and heart-breaking" by Buzz Magazine and as "powerful stuff. Rentokil wouldn’t have a clue how to deal with any of this." Louder Than War. While 2014’s ‘The Death of John MOuse’  was praised by The Line of Best Fit and its brilliant lead single ‘I was a Goalkeeper’ featured Gareth from Los Campesinos, prompted Steve Lamacq to pronounce it ‘my new favourite football song’.   

  John MOuse, real name John Davies has been described as ‘A Welsh Beck,’ under his previous incarnation JT Mouse he worked with Sweet Baboo (aka Steven Black) while in 2010 he scored a cult hit with a song about a gay romance with another duet, this time with TV presenter Steve Jones lifted from the acclaimed album ‘Humber Dogger Forties’. John MOuse has received airplay support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Mary Anne Hobbes, Steve Lamacq, Stuart Maconie, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music and Adam Walton & Bethan Elfyn on BBC Radio Wales.
