Sound Avenue rounds out a strong winter season by showcasing new interpretations of ‘Vanilla Noise’ by Madloch, Subnode and Pedro Capelossi. Originally released in November of 2020 as part of the ‘Turmeric Latte’ EP, it found the trio combining their creative forces for an exquisite organic house journey. With detail, rhythm and musicality all at a premium, it proved to be the perfect selection to close out the two-track showcase. Now with the Spring season upon us, Sound Avenue invites Valdovinos and Rohrer & Stohler to re-imagine the track.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of ‘Vanilla Noise’ is Valdovinos. Since making his production debut just over five year ago, the Argentinean artist has found a home on All Day I Dream, Shanti Radio Moscow, Tale & Tone and TRYBESof. Also an accomplished DJ, Valdovinos has had the honour of opening for top international talents such as Gui Boratto, Giorgia Angiuli, Hermanez and Luciano. Now making his much-anticipated Sound Avenue debut, he provides a dreamy take on ‘Vanilla Noise’. From deep yet robust beginnings, the piece moves fluidly through a storyboard of thumping beats, chunky bass and buoyant rhythms. Whimsical in nature, its fluttery melodic concepts captivate across the first act, before an interlude of distant voices and clustered chimes elevates emotion on wards into a spirited finale.

The release concludes with Rohrer & Stohler making their label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Vanilla Noise’. Although their discography is short, the Swiss duo have already found a home on Dream Culture and Nie Wieder Schlafen since making their debut in 2018. Now presenting their first production of 2021 the Baden residents deliver a rousing rendition of ‘Vanilla Noise’. Exuding warmth, atmosphere and organic design, Rohrer & Stohler’s unique style carries you on an evolving eight-minute journey. Drawing on the sensibilities from the original, the duo marries distinctive design elements and striking percussion with meditative rhythms and placid atmospheres. Vocal edits drift across the pulsating framework leading into the main break, where a tranquil calm resets the groove for a late night finale. An inspired interpretation from the Swiss duo, which rounds out a welcome remix edition for ‘Vanilla Noise’ by Madloch, Subnode and Pedro Capelossi.

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint continues a strong spring season by showcasing new interpretations of Eric Lune's ‘Embers'. Originally released in October of 2019, it's smooth yet euphoric moods saw play from Hernan Cattaneo, while also being one of the Aussie artist's best selling tracks of the year. Now looking to revive this musical gem for the warm months ahead, Sound Avenue invites Death On The Balcony and GMJ to re-imagine the track.

Sitting at the heart of the organic house underground are Death On The Balcony. Arriving on the scene more than a decade ago, the UK duo have compiled an impressive resume, highlighted by releases on All Day I Dream, Akbal Music, Do Not Sit On The Furniture and Kindisch. In what has proven to be a fruitful creative partnership the duo continue to earn the praise of their contemporaries and tastemakers alike. Now following a remix for Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas imprint, Death On The Balcony debut on Sound Avenue with a gorgeous take on ‘Embers'. Coming in smooth and percussion, it's a rich, soulful and incredibly charming nine minute journey. Redolent tones, ghostly vocal fragments and exotic drums build an inviting narrative, as strummy hooks and melodic flurries steal the air at opportune moments. Perfectly timed, the main break brings a greater sense of calm, a heartfelt interlude of sorts, before a stripped down section provides an energy bridge into a percussive drop and charismatic finale.

Completing the release and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Embers' is GMJ who makes his label debut. Based in Melbourne, Australia GMJ aka Gavin Martin has been a primary figure in the progressive house scene for over a decade. His passion for deep and emotive electronic music has seen him land releases on the industry's most esteemed imprints. From Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music to Cid Inc's Replug Records and UK behemoth Anjunadeep, it's GMJ's storytelling style that continues to surprise and inspire even the genre's most discerning fans. Now following an EP for his newly formed ‘Meanwhile' imprint, GMJ debuts on Sound Avenue with a stunning rendition of ‘Embers'. With a perfect blend of creativity and emotion, the Aussie artist deconstructs the main elements into a gorgeous effervescent theme. Symphonic overlays and buzzing sonics marry perfectly with the euphoric motifs, while a robust foundation translate those impassioned qualities to the dance floor. An exceptional remix from GMJ, capping off a well rounded remix edition for Eric Lune's ‘Embers'.

The relaunch of Crossfade Sounds continues with label boss Madloch collaborating with Subnode on 'Abyssal'. Being paired since the summer of 2018, the creative synergy between Madloch & Subnode has continued to grow. The Belgian duo have released three originals and a remix since beginning their collaborative partnership. With a sound that sits comfortably in the creative space between house and techno, the duo now continue their creative journey with a new single alongside remixes from Sascha Dive and Anton Lanski. 

Continuing to stretch their sonic boundaries, Madloch and Subnode deliver their deepest and most atmospheric creation to date with 'Abyssal'. Anchored by a rich foundation; it's warm, drone-like groove proves mountainous, as dubbed out rhythms underpin gaseous effects and effervescent percussion. Building subtly across it's eight-minute running time, the main break furthers the narrative with drifting fragments and muted beats adding just the right blend of anticipation and tension, before melting down into a meditative finale. Madloch and Subnode have also included a reprise for the more adventurous DJs and astute connoisseurs. 

The first interpretation of 'Abyssal' is provided by Sascha Dive who makes his label debut. Hailing from Frankfurt, the German artist has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground since first appearing 2007 with releases on Akbal, Cocoon, Drumpoet Community, Plastic City, Soma Records and his own Deep Vibes imprint. Now making a welcome debut on Crossfade Sounds, Sascha provides an inspired rendition of 'Abyssal'. Aptly coined 'Mystic Dub', the German artist ups the tempo while maintaining the unique atmospheric resonance of the original. Ghostly vocal wails and vivacious rhythms marry wonderfully atop a robust groove, while neatly manicured percussion pushes momentum forward to a heady finale. Deep yet impactful, it's Sascha's compelling architecture which ultimately makes for such a fascinating journey. 

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Abyssal' is Anton Lanski. The Russian artist owns an impressive resume having showcased his music on Kollektiv Turmstrasse's Musik Gewinnt Freunde and Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas. Now bringing his deep ethos to Crossfade Sounds, the Izhevsk resident provides a stunning take on 'Abyssal'. Punchy kicks and mounds of bulbous bass anchor the piece, while trailing effects and dynamic percussion fill in the framework. Misty atmospheres soon fade to prominence, initiating an expansive break. Murky and mysterious, the centrepiece shifts the narrative into surrealist territory, further elevating mood as the beats drop for a tripped-out finale. A stirring interpretation from the Russian artist, capping off an excellent release for Crossfade Sounds, who continue their inspired resurgence.

Borderless in vision, the Belgian imprint has forged a path to multiple musical dimensions. Blurring the boundaries between house and techno, it’s a platform for anyone with an open mind and ears.
