Madloch - Fiction (Martin Roth Remix)

Sound Avenue’s second offering of 2019 finds the label showcasing new interpretations of ‘Shadow People’ by Madloch & Subnode. Originally released in October of last year as part of the duo’s ‘Second Sight’ EP, it marked the beginning of a creative partnership between the Belgian artists. Sound Avenue now calls upon Charles Webster and Nordfold & Budakid to reinterpret the track for the new year.

Charles Webster has been a fixture of the electronic underground for well over three decades. The UK artist has been responsible for some of house music’s most memorable creations, while appearing on storied imprints such as Defected, Freerange, Innervisions, NRK and  Rebirth. More recently Charles has lent his remixing prowess to Connaisseur Recordings, Lost & Found and Selador. Now presenting his first production of 2019, Charles makes a welcome and much anticipated debut on Sound Avenue with a stunning rendition of 'Shadow People'. Beginning with punchy, organic beats it’s the warmth and fluidity of the groove which becomes instantly compelling. Perfectly contoured and full of great character, it anchors what is a pulsating, percussive and highly evocative slice of deep techno. In deconstructing the main elements Charles has expertly added mysterious field recordings and esoteric vocal edits, for what results in a dynamic, vibrant and timeless piece of music which is under constant evolution.

The second and final interpretation of 'Shadow People' is provided by Nordfold & Budakid who also make their label debut. Hailing from the Netherlands (although Budakid now resides in Berlin) the Dutch duo have been occasional studio partners since making their collaborative debut in June of 2017. Both owning impressive solo discography’s, collectively the pair have showcased their music on All Day I Dream, Atlant, Last Night On Earth, Lost Diaries and Lost & Found, with joint releases coming on the equally impressive Einmusika, Stil Vor Talent and Sudbeat Music. Now presenting their first collaborative effort of 2019, Nordfold & Budakid round the release out with a fresh take on ‘Shadow People’. On a backbone of buoyant beats and neatly tailored percussion comes retro grooves and solemn atmospheres. Fluid, bouncy and tastefully nostalgic, it’s a piece that moves through a variety of reflective motifs. Initiating the main break are wispy overlays, descending over the framework as a hazy harmonic resonance saturates your senses, before the groove resets for a celestial finale. A stunning interpretation from Nordfold and Budakid who’s studio synergy seems to grow with each successive outing. It caps off a well rounded remix edition for ‘Shadow People’ which is sure to find its way into a broad range of DJ sets over the coming months.

Matias Vila - Ahora (Eran Aviner & Hermanez Remix) [Sound Avenue]

Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint follows up their 100th release by welcoming Paula Os to the label for her first ever solo single ‘Pearl’. Born in Chile but now Buenos Aires based, Paula shot into the electronic music spotlight in 2016 with her vocal work on Jos & Eli’s ‘Walking On Water’. Released through long standing German imprint Einmusika, it set the course for what has been a remarkable two year stretch. Paula has since gone on to collaborate with some of progressive music’s most esteemed talents in Antrim and Kamilo Sanclemente. 2017 saw Sound Avenue label boss Madloch introduce Paula’s sublime vocals into his well received Magician On Duty single ‘Deserts & Snow’. A friendship and mutual respect developed between the two artists, eventually leading to the present with Paula’s first and much anticipated solo single coming courtesy of Sound Avenue, alongside remixes from Powel and Adam Nathan.

Paula OS - Pearl (Powel Remix) [Sound Avenue]

Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint continues a strong spring season by showcasing new interpretations of Eric Lune’s ‘Embers’. Originally released in October of 2019, it’s smooth yet euphoric moods saw play from Hernan Cattaneo, while also being one of the Aussie artist’s best selling tracks of the year. Now looking to revive this musical gem for the warm months ahead, Sound Avenue invites Death On The Balcony and GMJ to re-imagine the track.

Sitting at the heart of the organic house underground are Death On The Balcony. Arriving on the scene more than a decade ago, the UK duo have compiled an impressive resume, highlighted by releases on All Day I Dream, Akbal Music, Do Not Sit On The Furniture and Kindisch. In what has proven to be a fruitful creative partnership the duo continue to earn the praise of their contemporaries and tastemakers alike. Now following a remix for Pablo Bolivar’s Seven Villas imprint, Death On The Balcony debut on Sound Avenue with a gorgeous take on ‘Embers’. Coming in smooth and percussion, it’s a rich, soulful and incredibly charming nine minute journey. Redolent tones, ghostly vocal fragments and exotic drums build an inviting narrative, as strummy hooks and melodic flurries steal the air at opportune moments. Perfectly timed, the main break brings a greater sense of calm, a heartfelt interlude of sorts, before a stripped down section provides an energy bridge into a percussive drop and charismatic finale.

Having built early momentum on a global scale, the label hosted events across Europe, North Amercia, Argentina and their home country of Belgium. These uniquely branded club nights featured some of the labels core artists (at the time) including Agustin Basulto, Beat Syndrome, Luis Junior, Matias Vila, Nicolas Rada and Sound Process. It set in motion what has been a unique course to musical freedom, pioneering various sonic blueprints over the course of eight years, while maintaining a strong bond  between its loyal and ever expanding fanbase.   

Originally intended to be a stand alone platform, as Sound Avenue experienced unprecedented growth its musical horizons expanded, eventually paving the way for two label subsidiaries in 3rd Avenue and Crossfade Sounds. The former drew influence from Sound Avenue’s early beginnings, showcasing the best in melodic house while the latter dove into the realms of deeper, dubby house and laid back modern techno.   

Now over one hundred releases into their journey, Sound Avenue has continued to flourish through precision, care and well thought out A&R choices. It’s this attention to detail that has allowed the label to work with some of electronic music’s most esteemed artists, such as Budakid, Bachir Salloum & Zone+, Charles Webster, Cosmic Cowboys, Eelke Kleijn, Estroe, Facundo Mohrr, James Teej, Kurt Baggaley, Luis Junior, Martin Roth, Pablo Bolivar, Petar Dundov, PHCK, Powel, Santiago Garcia, Stelios Vassiloudis, Superlounge and Tim Engelhardt. 
 
Sound Avenue carefully curates each release to move their vision forward, building a close-knit family of scene veterans, while nurturing new talents such as Agustin Basulto, Giddyhead, Lucefora and Nicolas Rada. It’s this cohesive blend which has made the label bold, innovative and a standout in their field. With their finger firmly on the pulse of an ever evolving marketplace, it has been Sound Avenue’s foresight which has allowed them to adapt to this shifting landscape, while continuing to build their fanbase globally. As dance culture continues to grow Sound Avenue unites people from all walks of life, like-minded souls who are bound by one distinct trait, a passion for music.
