Under his DNYO alias, Brazil's Danny Oliveira returns to Juicebox Music with a 2-track EP featuring "Radiate" and "Closer Distance". The São Paulo based artist first made his debut with us back in mid-2019 with "Flare", which also saw a massive remix from Peter Dundov, along with "Children". DNYO also contributed to our first chapter of 'Tales of Time' with "Little Samurai", a cinematic piece with thunderous broken beats. His versatility in creating genre-bending music through his intricate sound design, harmonic complexities and non-linear approach are just a few reasons he's considered as one of the most forward-thinking producers out there. With this new EP, he's now ventured into a slightly new mood, prepping us for the summer ahead. "Radiate" pays homage to the sound of yester-year's deeper side of house music but dressed in futuristic attire. As the soundtrack progresses with multiple layers being introduced, it almost feels like a glimpse into how musical tastes have progressed over the years. "Closer Distance" stays with the deeper-theme and taps into a more tribal and percussive route with an ethereal synth-laden score.

Facundo Sosa - Gambol (Gaston Ponte Remix)

Operating out of his Brooklyn studio, Mike Isai is a new name to grace the Meanwhile catalogues as the Australian imprint delivers its 18th release with “Home / 87 North”. A single remix comes from fellow US artist, Forerunners.

A relative newcomer to the Progressive House scene, Mike Isai’s nascent production career has already seen a debut on the Nick Warren led, Hope Recordings, via September 2020’s “Pillars to Butterflies” EP. A March 2021 reworking of Shanil Alox’s “Algorithm” for Droid9 illustrated Isai’s remix capabilities, as the US star now debuts on Meanwhile with his twin-tracker.

Opening proceedings, “Home” is a dark and sultry piece that pulsates hypnotically through its near 9-minute voyage with a panoply of textured layers and white-noise effects. Quickly hitting its stride, a pounding kick is accompanied by an immaculately syncopated synth motif that provides the basis for a counterpoint phrase to sit elegantly on top in glittering repetitive pattern. Reaching a rousing filtered denouement at the mid-point, “Home” drops back into a familiar arrangement as all elements combine to impressive effect in the third movement.

Continuing the powerful rhythmic framework of its partner, “87 North” immediately impresses with its 16th note bassline and seismic kick. Another syncopated synth loop provides an imposing trademark production technique as haunting melodies drift over the mid-range, drenched in reverb and white-noise washes. Coruscating pads add further intrigue as the 7-minute piece evolves, coming fully to the fore in a ‘wall of sound’ breakdown, before the second half picks up the pace again with percussive intensity. The juxtaposition of meandering melodic threads and bassline urgency thus creates an impressively woven dynamism.

Another new artist to grace Meanwhile finds Arizona based Brenden LaBonte creating a potent wave of success with his Forerunners moniker. With over a double century of production credits to his name for some of the finest modern dance imprints, Sudbeat Music, Anjunadeep, and Black Hole have all played host to the US artist’s emotive soundscapes. Reworking “Home”, the Forerunners remix is chock full of the trademark soundscapes that characterise LaBonte’s work, with whispering melodies floating atop a powerful beat and ticking hi-hat groove. A relentless bassline sequence adds weight and poise over the 8-minute offering as subtle variations on Mike Isai’s original make their presence felt. Pausing for breath at a spine-tingling mid-point, cadenced bass groove and subtle melodic prowess hit the heights in the latter stages.

New music sees Mike Isai guided home by his north star, accompanied by a shining remix from Forerunners.

Staying in ‘The America’s’ for our next release, we head south, back to Buenos Aires, Argentina the South American nerve centre and heartbeat of Progressive House. 

There we are thrilled to welcome this next pair of artists to the onedotsixtwo family, Maximo Gambini & Q.A.T aka Leandro Maldonado.  These two very bright rising stars of the global progressive scene have been on fire of late with a string of remixes that have been getting regular plays on Hernan Cattaneo’s Resident show as well as his club and festival shows worldwide. This is their first original EP as a duo with both artists having had great success on labels such a Sound Avenue and One of a Kind. 

The lead track ‘Stochastic Process’ is a beautifully crafted melodic journey of sound that builds into a melancholic breakdown before the large drop, enough to make any dancefloor swing sideways. ‘One Sided Thoughts’ takes the path of a more hypnotic journey that weaves a softy gated vocal and smooth pads and effects with a whirring baseline that kicks like mule. 

On remix duties we welcome back long-time label afficionado Weird Sounding Dude who has applied his meticulous sound design to ‘Stochastic Process’ keeping true to the original whilst adding his signature sound, and Turkish artist Hakan Onuzur, who after a short musical hiatus is back in the studio, has a delivered an amazing interpretation of ‘One-Sided Thoughts’ showcasing to everyone, that he’s an artist who should be on your radar.

Alpine craftsmanship combines with Argentinean talent as The Wash and Ric Niels provide a new global partnership between Europe and South America. Through "Argaut", flexible rhythmic grooves ease their way atop throbbing beat and urgent bassline whilst silky pads add counterweight. Striking arp phrasing melts into hypnotic patterns before "Remote Madness" find a way to back to lucidity. A meteor-sized kick thumps its way across the plains; from Höflein to Tres Isletas where acid sequences morph across the sonic landscape, pausing for breath in a serene breakdown. The smooth undertones of "11.247" shimmer in undulating patterns and a moment of uplifting joy transcends geographical barriers. Sydney based Luka Sambe has created an impressive portfolio with his organic progressive house sensibilities. Here he joins forces with another Sydneysider, Zankee Gulati, to deliver a tree track EP that's impressive in scope and highly engaging.

'Civic Path' leads to a magical forest filled with organic sounds: chirping birds, falling water and rustling leaves soaked in reverb create a nurturing environment. Offset that fantastic breakdown with the bubbling, elastic bass and fresh sizzling percussion, and you have a track as effective as a holiday.

The narrative on 'Burning Sage' might be more linear; however, the devil is in the details. As the track title's ceremonial implications might allude to, various fierce sounds create an almost dizzying effect. But once the sage hits to exorcise the demons, a stunning melody is introduced to ground the bedlam, all anchored in warm drums and soothing energy.

If you're after a straight up cosmic jam, then scratch that itch with '7 Days'. A lovely bass and celestial samples join forces with running synthesisers, all seemingly frolicking on their own accord. Automation enhances movement alongside melodic motifs that work together even though they're not singing for the same songbook. This is one for a lovely sunny afternoon.

Founded in 2011 by Belgian DJ and producer Madloch, Sound Avenue is an electronic music label that stands for quality and originality. Borderless in vision, the Belgian imprint has forged a path to multiple musical dimensions. Blurring the boundaries between house and techno, it’s a platform for anyone with an open mind and ears. Having built early momentum on a global scale, the label hosted events across Europe, North Amercia, Argentina and their home country of Belgium. These uniquely branded club nights featured some of the labels core artists (at the time) including Agustin Basulto, Beat Syndrome, Luis Junior, Matias Vila, Nicolas Rada and Sound Process.
