This song was recorded 6 months ago but I didnt release it last year.. it was meant to be a gift for a primal part of my Self, but I now feel the track has gone beyond its original intent of being merely a yearning tribute to Loves lost and Love found. 

Like most of the covers I put together, this mashup was something I kept hearing in my mind and emerged from my need to express the sentiments that were already perfectly encapsulated within the beautiful songs herein. For those of you who're into electronica and progressive, you might recognize the originals immediately. And for those who are blissfully ignorant, what you're hearing is the marriage between Depeche Mode's 'Enjoy the Silence' and Riverside's 'Schizophrenic Prayer', with a few of my own alterations thrown in for good measure.

SoundChilde feat. Nishi B. - Nightcall (Kavinsky Cover)

What you're hearing is a musical conversion or interpretation of my own brainwaves that were recorded during a neuro experiment, which I conducted with my very own EEG headset that I built. The aim was to record my brain activity while meditating with the focus on entering and maintaining the corresponding alpha state. The EEG data was processed in such a way that the alpha and beta bands are filtered and converted into MIDI. The sounds are in stereo, so each side corresponds to each brain hemisphere. In the beginning, you will notice how the notes are not in sync at first.. this is because, I was primarily still in beta at the time. But as time goes by and I gradually slip into alpha state by meditating, the notes seem to come together, indicating brief moments of synchronization between the two hemispheres. In other words, this is how my brain 'sounds' when I'm relaxed :)

Neurotronica 1 - Alpha-Beta Brainwave Music (EEG to MIDI interpretation)

This is the full-length original of the second part to my Neurotronica (Alpha-Beta Brainwave/EEG-to-Music) project, the culmination of it being the interpretation of my brainwave data as a synthesized sequence, recorded using my very own DIY Cyberpunk EEG headset (built by yours truly) and mapped to the synth.

My brainwave data was filtered and broken down into its constituent bands, out of which I chose a combination of the Alpha and Beta bands to direct this music. The Synthesizer sequence is driven by the average power intensity between both hemispheres of the brain, while the celesta corresponds to the left side and the crystal/bowing sound is from the right. The musical notes evolve organically based on brain activity and there are moments at which these sounds seem to come together, indicating brief periods of hemispheric synchronization. 

On a more abstract note, I'd like to think that this is what the neural equivalent of Cyberspace might sound like :)

This track was composed for my love of all things 80's and that quintessential Synthwave / New Wave Retro sound, inspired by the likes of Kavinsky, Lazerhawk, Vector Hold, Mitch Murder, etc I'm especially proud of this track coz, like with the experimental music that I release every now and then, this was mostly done on my DIY Synths that I built. This time, I fed my XT through EchoBlue, my very own 3-stage analog delay unit that I designed and constructed myself (you can hear a bit of that analog noise in the intro). Sound Childe - RetroWave: Engage! (alternate version)

This is my take on the medieval ballad that was popularized by Simon & Garunkle. I tried to make it a bit haunting, with the added effect of a panned flute and voices swirling around in auditory space. Took the liberty of rewording & rearranging the vocal seconds as well, minus most of the war references from S&G's classic.

For the longest time, I thought that this ballad was one of the most romantic songs I'd ever heard.. a song of love and longing. After all, in Medieval times, the herbs mentioned in the song represented virtues that were sought by those in love.. such as, Parsley was comfort, sage was strength, rosemary was love, and thyme was courage. 

But then, after a bit of research, I came to realize that the lyrics actually point to the opposite... because, in the song, the man is actually spurning the advances of his lover (possibly after a bitter break-up), giving her a series of impossible tasks to complete, only after which she can win his heart back. This was explained well here:

"The man gives a list of items that the woman must accomplish before she can have his heart. It appears loving until you read into the list. Every item in the list is impossible to perform. “Tell her to make me a cambric shirt” seems reasonable until it is specified without needlework. Another verse asks for an acre of land between the ocean and the shore. The entire list is filled with contempt. This shows that the woman asking for the man's love is a former lover of the man. He is basically saying that it is impossible for him to ever love her again."

So infact, this ballad is actually more of a bitter, break-up song rather than what most people assume. Perfect for your ex's! ;D

Scarborough Fair (Ye Olde Canticle)

This is a continuation of my experimental series in bio/electric or Bionic music. This track was generated with a combination of signals from the heart and brain, which were then converted into music. Earlier iterations of my Neurotronica tracks were created purely from raw EEG data recorded using a DIY neuro-headset that I built myself. I modified the headset further to be able to accept ECG signals from the heart as well.. and in this case, I use my own heartbeats to drive the drums on this piece, in real-time. 

As you will hear in the intro, a single heartbeat or pulse will trigger the drum kick, hi-hats and snare, whenever the ECG voltage levels reach certain thresholds. The rest of the instrumentation such, as the overdriven guitar, bass & pads are controlled by 3 different EEG channels taken from the Frontal & Occipital regions of the Left & Right hemispheres. 

This entire track is experimental, so it is NOT meant to sound like conventional music.. although it does sound a bit progressive to my ears, if I do say so myself! The initial intro clearly demonstrates how each section of the drums  is triggered by the heartbeat, as the gain is slowly increased over the course of 1 min. Once all the instruments kick in, it may seem chaotic at first.. but if you listen closely, you will distinctly HEAR my heart rhythm throughout the track.. and how it can vary as well.

What else can I say... this is literally as heart-felt as music can be ;D

This is my take on the downtempo classic by Nine Inch Nails, combined with a couple of other tracks that I felt would mash quite nicely with 'Right where it Belongs'. This is just the initial take/edit of the track, more to come later.
